Tony I don't think it is wise nor generous to just be an everyday Santa. Before all this welfare people were independant and those who could worked, those who couldn't from age or disability were taken care of by family or church.
I'm an Ayn Rand fan. And agree with most of what she says about money and charity.

Is anyone familiar with the runs from the food banks to the landfills? Livestock farmers used to take the discards from the food banks that were deemed not suitable for human consumption. A good of that was still good for human consumption, just bruised, expired, or dented. Pigs and goats are great consumers of food "unsuitable" for humans.

We each have our own thoughts and opinions about charity. Thankfully I've never known what it is like to put my children to bed hungry, so I'm willing to extend a hand to anyone asking. If they are scamming me, then so be it.

When I was at Dollar General yesterday, I looked at some Nilla vanilla wafers. I like vanilla wafers with peanut butter for a snack. An 11 ounce box cost $4.75. According to my figuring, that amounts to $6.98 per pound. I like them but I don't like them that much.

My son tells me that almost no groceries have vanilla wafers on the shelf. I wonder why?

I knew a guy who fed his pigs the dated Hostess stuff (Twinkies and Ho-Hos) that got pulled from the shelves, wrappers and all. I always felt that the meat could not be very nutritious.

Beth we do have a generator but if it gets bad nobody will be able to get gas, plus they are loud so it's like an advertisement to trouble.

We have been wanting a whole-house generator that runs on natural gas, Marie. Estimates so far are in the $20k range so we decided to think on it. :D

Oh well thats different Miss Fancy Pants. Kidding around but that would be nice to have. You already have a bug out vehicle, right? Didn't you say you have a camper? I have my van road ready but its disabled at the time, maybe forever who knows.

We do have a motorhome, but I don't consider it a "bug out vehicle." During hurricanes we usually just button up the house and stay put.

Excuse me a motorhome, well princess imagine my bow. I got one too but it's 'small'.
Hubby brother just bought a really nice motorhome, they came to visit and its like a rolling tiny house.
