She led her country through some turbulent times; always with grace and beauty. And there truly will never be another like her. My deepest sympathy to her country and all her people around the world.

Have you seen the crowds at Kensington Palace?

If anyone here are in their mid 70's just imagine the history that has passed before our eyes, and still more to come before all of us are gone.

The only thing I hold against the British was not helping the USA during the Vietnam War. Now I know it was not a legal war but just another opened by a democrat, but the fact is a lot of lives would have not been lost if we had the support of all of our allies. We had two nations step up and help us, it was South Korea and of course Australia who provided as much as they possibly could. A very small Navy and standing Army but yet they did more than their share. Now if you remember the Falklands War was fought by two friendly nations, Britain and Argentina. Yet we stuck our necks out for the British once again by giving them intelligence from our satellites. We did nothing for Argentina because they had a corrupt murdering dictator who started the conflict to get the heat off of him for killing his citizens, he was a real slug for sure. My point is we never deny help to Britain and things are not as they were at the close of WW II. I think their Queen was a good person and she did not have the last say in who they support or help. It will be interesting to see how Charles rules but at his age it won't be a long rule.

I deleted the first one and just now deleted this one, too, @Al Amoling . This thread is a memorial and commemorative thread for a queen who has died, and was loved by people all around the world.
If you want to start a thread about what happened in Canada,or talk about lizard people, this is NOT the place for it.
Please start a separate thread in the conspiracy section, (if there is not an existing one there already) if you wish to proclaim an opinion that is not consistent with this memorial thread. I sent you a message about that yesterday when I deleted the first rude post.
Please address objections in private conversations like Ken has asked people to do, and not in the thread topic henceforth.

I can't say that I'm heartbroken over the death of the Queen because, you know, we've barely met and I didn't know her very well, and I'm not much into royalty, American or British, anyhow. There's no animosity, as I see no reason for that since the idea is simply irrelevant to me.

What I don't understand is why those who are not royalty would be invested in the feelings of others, who are not royalty, about royalty. That's so far distant from my life that I can't imagine it. Maybe that's just me. I've always been a heartless bastard toward people who not only are not part of my life but would never want to be part of my life. They are akin to movie characters to me. That neither makes them bad nor good. My 7th-grade self didn't get all emotional over the death of John F. Kennedy either. But, after one insensitive remark, which I found humorous, I learned to be a little more careful of what I said around people who weren't insensitive bastards. I was the only one who thought my remark was funny, or, at least, who dared acknowledge such.

Nevertheless, I wouldn't attend someone's funeral just to demonstrate my disdain for the deceased and, in a sense, that's what a memorial thread is. Many people are wrapped up in the lives of royal families, and I don't have to understand the reasons for it to know it's so.

Celebrities are similar, although less formal. I can recognize and appreciate the skill of an actor or musician, but that doesn't mean that I want my picture taken with them or that I'll get all teary-eyed if something happens to them. I don't know them, they don't want to know me, so we're just not part of one another's lives.

The Queen didn't do anything to me that I'm aware of, and I've never had the sense that the Royal Family in England has a great deal to do with the operations of the government, anyhow. Maybe I'm wrong about that. As much as I have tried to keep up with what's going on with the US government, I don't feel that I have a good grip on it, so I haven't even tried to figure out other countries very much.

It's fair to say that a large number of people, in the United Kingdom as well as the United States, and elsewhere, held Queen Elizabeth II in high regard, so there's no reason to pee on her grave. She had some good qualities, and maybe some great qualities, but I am no one to judge the qualities of the Royal Family. I haven't paid much attention, but I have noticed that many of those who have, loved the woman, and that's okay with me.

That's just the way my mind works. Actors, musicians, politicians, celebrities, and members of royal families aren't much different than fictional characters in a book or a movie to me. I might get caught up in the drama from time to time, or even for extended periods - until the show is canceled, the movie is over, or I've finished the book, but they're not part of my life. However, I'm not suggesting that everyone's mind should work that way.

I have no opinion of the Royals one way or another, but I do believe Queen Elizabeth was a gracious lady and I found her very impressive particularly at her age. If the British people want to continue the monarchy that is no skin off my nose. Since QEII was the only British monarch of my lifetime, it will certainly seem strange that she is no longer on the throne. (I'm sure King Charles will be the subject of my ridicule, however. I think he's a boorish little man.)

Whether you liked her or not, it is poor form to disparage someone when others are expressing sympathy at her passing. Please wait to do that until Nancy Pelosi dies. :D

I think King Charles is going to do just fine. He doesn't seem to take himself so seriously. It might be a refreshing change. Maybe a time of transition.

“Even after 70 years, we didn’t know an awful lot about the Queen. But we know considerably more about Charles in public and private. And although she was sovereign for 70 years, the Queen was a reserved, rather shy character, she was very good at compartmentalization; those aren’t traits that Charles seems to have inherited. He is more outgoing. ... There is a consensus among those who know him and work with him that he will find it difficult to remain silent in the same way his mother did for the whole of her reign … they are very different characters.”

    — Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine

(I'm posting this quote only because that's the way it looks to me, and don't believe in just speculating the same thing in my own stupid words.)
