When I googled mullet, lots of pictures of the women's "shag" haircut of the late 70's came up. (Like Jane Fonda in Klute.) I had a shag and remember it well, but it was not the same as a mullet. Not as much definition between sides and back.

I can still cut the back of my hair but it does take some positioning and cutting a small amount at a time. I have never cut my hair and have been 100% satisfied with the results. I can get it cut for $25 including the tip and every two months that expense isn't going to break me. I am just too much of a DIY gal to pay others if I can do it myself. I fear the time is approaching. Shaving my legs this morning was a major feat, but we don't have a leg shaving salon in my area that I am aware of. I know now why my mother, grandmother, and greats quit shaving their legs in their 60s. I took a year off and just couldn't stand it. My hair is gray on my head but black everywhere else. There is a lot of unfairness in old age hahaha!

I've never been 100% satisfied with how I cut my hair either, but neither have I been satisfied with it done at a salon. I just hate the time spent going, coming, waiting, looking decent, watching the clock all day .... and washing my hair before I go. ;)

Yep, that is my story. I always come home and do some touchup after a salon visit. My hairdresser finally decided she didn't need to wash my hair which is a time saver. I just dress like I do every day since she and a couple of others there are middle-aged country girls. Sometimes (rarely) I put on mascara, liner, and a touch of either light rose or blue shadow. If it is blue, knowing I walk to my appointments (only 1 mile), they make comments about me being a street walker. If light rose, they get all excited and interrogate me about who the guy is and want to see the ring.:D:D:D They are all comedians after my own heart. :)

I used a 2' tall wooden box to stand on while putting up the summer bluebird house (on May 4th). Should have known that was too high to step up. Next day there were sore muscles. It seems like what they describe as a pulled groin muscle. It can't be very serious because I can walk just fine. Just can't lift the left knee from a sitting position. Using the clutch on the riding mower, and just getting in the truck, are some of the things that must be causing this to linger.

Then there's the broken toe (the one that "stays home") on the right foot. Many say there is not much you can do, and it usually takes care of itself. It keeps trying to heal, and I keep bending it. It's almost impossible to splint a toe, and I have too many things to do to go without a shoe.

These things are aggravating, but I know they will eventually heal, one way or another. I bring them up because they have caused me to put off doing a lot of yardwork I was planning this summer. Then the heat and humidity came. And the fire ants, who I believe would go on suicide missions to attack, even if you covered yourself with insect repellant.

Here's what really bothers me. While I was doing the minimum all summer other things started happening. If I sit still for an hour now I can barely move. Everything is stiff. Same thing if I get down on the floor to comb the cat (another story). It's almost impossible to get up at first. But it always works itself out. And it's not any worse than usual when I get up in the morning. Could this just be from lack of exercise?

So the question is, am I at the green dot or the red?

I have to break this cycle. The plan is to do a bunch of work out at the farm this afternoon. See what happens. Putting it in writing, or I may change my mind.

I don't know dear, but I can relate to much of what you say. I exercise daily but it doesn't make any difference in muscle or nerve pain. The main reason I do it is to keep my abs strong because of my worn-out back. The other is to keep my breathing from being any more shallow than it is.

I am not sure how old you are, but as I age I find healing gets slower and slower. I have done more sitting this summer than ever before. No walks the last few days due to forest and range fire smoke at a dangerous level. I am a lot stiffer than usual. I need to mow today, but it won't happen. I forget to get up frequently doing all this sitting.

Only until 11:00. Then it's off to the dentist. :)

    9/13/22 Tuesday

First nice day since May. Sunny, high 83F. Taped #2 and #3 toes together, and took off to do some spraying along the south half of the fence.

Stopped at the bottom of the hill above the dam. Once you start up, there's no turning back. I chickened out because GC graded it this spring. Looks loose. Found an old bypass through the woods, which was still passable.

Turned out the dam was the only thing that really needed spraying—around the new drainpipes. You could hardly find them. Did 2 patches of kudzu in the interior on the way back, and one next to the neighbor up near the house. Trip took about 2.5 hours, only 6 gallons of water and a cup of Roundup. If I had known everything was in such good shape, I'd have taken enough water to make the whole circle.

Only one limb down on the fence on this half. Small but awkward to move. Saw not working.

    upload_2022-9-16_10-6-56.png

Looked for sassafras trees on the way, with no luck. Will have to wait until the leaves turn. There may not be any. Took the new palm sander to the cabin to see if it was going to work on the doors. It's going to make it an easy job.

The activity didn't slow progress on the problem with the left leg. Only bent the toe once (but once is all it takes). Some new sore muscles the next day, mostly from moving that limb, but only temporary. I think I'm at the green dot.

Will try again to mow the back lawn in town today. It rained 10 of the first 13 days in September.

This is what the chinch bugs have done to the back lawn. The brown is dead St. Augustine grass. They have taken out about 75% now. Not much incentive to mow.

    upload_2022-9-16_19-24-5.png

The bugs don't seem to be bothering a little patch of centipede I also sprigged years ago. I should switch to that. It's not as pretty, imo.

What's left is mostly plantain. My father always called it "buck" plantain. That really is a name. I thought he made it up. However, there seems to be 2 varieties. How confusing.

    Buckhorn Plantain (Plantago lanceolata)

Buck's Horn Plantain (Plantago coronopus), because the leaves look like a buck's horn.

As I recall practically our whole lawn in Ohio was made up of the first kind, and some clover. Very little grass. I was the lawn mower as soon as I got old enough. Maybe I should cultivate it instead of grass. It tolerates anything. But it's got those ugly seed things that stick up. :p

    (9/18/22) Sunday

I have to think a project through to the very end before starting, because if something goes wrong, "one" tends to make bad decisions on the spur of the moment. The project to think more about Sunday was the new front door. I've got someone lined up who will install a door. The stumbling block is finding a door. Current one is 84" tall. A standard height door would look silly. Even the current one looks too short to me. Custom order => expensive => long lead time.

    upload_2022-9-19_8-19-0.png

Ruled out Wood (hate to paint) and Steel (long story). That leaves Fiberglass. At least it doesn't rust, but has to be painted. o_O Ruled out Lowes and Home Depot. No indication they custom order, and their doors look cheaply made anyway. It took all morning just to get this far.

Spent the afternoon looking at manufacturer's websites. Finally found one company (ProVia) that makes any height doors, paints them any color, and even customizes the width of the door jamb on prehung doors. This last I never thought of. The walls in this house are made with real 2x4s and thick lath and plaster. The manufacturing plant is in Sugarcreek, Ohio. Just 20 miles from my grandfather's cabin in Amish country. And there is even one place in town here where they say you can buy their doors. Sounded promising.

Still Sunday so I killed the evening watching YouTube videos on how to install a prehung door, just to get an idea of what to look out for, and how to measure. Found out ProVia doors are considered top of the line. That means SUPER expensive. They also make steel doors, which are cheaper than Fiberglass and better made than Lowes/HD steel doors. I might rethink Steel.

I should get on the phone, but not in the mood to find out the price today. Maybe tomorrow. :p

Would spreading a couple loads of gravel in the back yard, for a temporary driveway turnaround, cause problems later on, if you wanted to make a permanent driveway in the same spot? I can't see how it would. You shouldn't need a permit to do that. You might with a whole new driveway.

There seems to be no one in town that does asphalt driveway paving, just big parking lot and highway jobs. The road that adjoins ours had been under construction since early May until school started. Blocked to all thru traffic. I got spoiled and forgot about the driveway project until now.

    upload_2022-9-29_16-8-17.png

Both vehicles were illegally parked on a yellow curb all day. Had to go to the store. Lucky I had backed in the trip before. It is almost impossible to back out of the driveway blocked like this.

I hate that the city/police dept makes residents become "tattle-tales." I know they have more important things to do, like catching murderers and robbers. But still.
