I have read that this was actually reported a few days after the Oscars in '73, but I guess I didn't care. Still don't, but apparently it's newsworthy again so the cultural-appropriation whiners can have a new cause. This must be where Elizabeth Warren got the idea. :p

"Just weeks after the death of Sacheen Littlefeather — the actress and activist who declined Marlon Brando’s 1973 Oscar win for The Godfather on his behalf and was blacklisted in Hollywood — her biological sisters have revealed that she fabricated her Native American ancestry.

The two sisters of Littlefeather (born Marie Louise Cruz) told the San Francisco Chronicle that, despite Littlefeather’s claims of being White Mountain Apache, their father was actually Mexican with no tribal identity; genealogical records also traced the Cruz family history to Mexico City with no known ties to the tribal nations there.

'Tis a pity we didn't have DNA testing back in those days.

I guess the indian tribes didn't care that their culture was being appropriated in those days.

This is what happens when value is randomly assigned to meaningless crap by people who don't matter.

    Dunno.
The traditional thought that European (Iberian) plus Indigenous tribes equals Mexican has been mostly dispelled since the use of DNA, but since it’s still a belief by many, I can’t blame anyone who has a Mexican parent to think they have some Indigenous Indian in the mix.

Now, to specify a certain tribe as being part of the Mexican link is a stretch but it’s Hollywood so who really cares except those who have absolutely nothing else in their little world to complain about.
No one cared that Bob Hope’s real name was Leslie and was from England and John Wayne’s real name was Marion Morrison and appropriated the name “Duke” from a dog.

"The only thing that makes me sadder than pollution is seeing my culture appropriated,"
    said the Italian.

Yup. Iron Eyes Cody, "born of a Cherokee father and a Cree mother," was actually 2nd generation Italian. His parents--Antonio de Corti and Francesca Salpietra--had both emigrated from Sicily. He lied about his heritage his entire life.

Can we bring back Columbus Day now?

No! Until whomever makes up the tribute days and months makes a white guys day, I don’t wanna see any of ‘em.
After all, they all appropriated the use of a Remington and nitroglycerin for example.

Yeah but some Mexicans can trace their linage to the Chinese who migrated there and sometimes referred to as “Chinos”.
And, lest we forget, the French took over and did some breeding themselves but for most, the general acceptance is that coupling between whatever tribe of Indian and Spanish is Mexican. It’s erroneous but accepted.
