I was just thinking how different my answer would have been if asked when I was 30-40 years old. :D

Hi Lois, I thought of becoming an architect at one time but gave up on the idea because I can't draw. However, I never stopped loving Frank Lloyd Wright's work. He was the kind of architect I wanted to be. Fallingwater is an incredible masterpiece. Besides, I could get my 10,000 steps daily exercise if I lived there. Stay well, John.

Better you than I getting in 10,000 steps these days, John. It's great that you do it daily.

I only have 2 absolute requirements for my house:
    1. A roof that doesn't leak
    2. Indoor plumbing
    Anything else is negotiable.

I believe it is Dave Ramsey who said that a man only need 3 things: Food to eat, a way to cook it and a place to cook it.
Now, what kind of food we eat, how we cook it and what kind of shelter we choose to cook it in are the things we get hung up on.

Lois, I wish I did do 10,000 daily steps. Maybe years ago. Nowadays, I only do about 3,000 steps three times per week, weather permitting. Got to keep moving!

Don't you live in Florida?? I'd think that air conditioning would be on that list. :D (I know it would in Houston.)

I'd keep the one I live in. We had it built and I picked everything about it.

But for a vacation home, I'd have a little house on the side of a mountain. With a little babbling stream just downhill in the front..... filled with water flowing from an ice cold waterfall... overlooking a valley far, far below.

In Florida, A/C would be nice, and when I lived in NW Ohio, a good furnace was nice. But when I lived on the Big Island, I didn't have either one and life was still good. So, all those things are indeed negotiable

    I've been busy thinking ... ;)

My grandmother's old house in NE Ohio would be a top contender. Three bedrooms, 1 bath, full basement.

It has a solarium with widows on 3 sides, and a dedicated sewing room off one bedroom. The finished attic is one large open room. I would guess at least 20' x 20' with sloped ceilings, beautifully finished hardwood floors, and two large dormers. A balcony off the bathroom. Other unusual features (I'll quit now).

This is all from memory from Thanksgiving/Christmas dinners when my cousins and I would wander around snooping into everything upstairs, while the adults were downstairs watching football and washing dishes.

The house is still there. Don't know what I'd do with it. o_O Just wander around all day, I guess. :)

This house is something on the order of what I'd like. Prefer a wrap around porch.
