Yes! Yes, I do, but I made the choice long ago to be a survivor and not a victim. I have bad OCD and PTSD from trauma, plus several physical problems My problems shouldn't be others. I don't attack anyone over an illness, mental or physical, but when they refuse to even try to help themselves when they could and refuse any and all suggestions, I don't have the patience for such.

Notice that whether texting or posting a message on a forum or whatever, the suggested words below the box are never abbreviated nor some socially accepted acronym but rather, the suggestions are full words.

The other day I was setting up my new bluetooth receiver/pre-amp and the acronym of EVD was used numerous times in the instructions. I, being the curious type and since the acronym made NO sense at all I decided to look it up.
Note: In a man’s world, even reading instructions is an admission of ignorance but still, if one has a chance of getting lost, it is best to look at the map as long as it is done in private. I digress.

The first whole page on Google said the letters meant External Ventricular Drain which again, made no sense because my device has no ventricle and certainly didn’t need to be drained.
It took a while to find out that in my case, it means Enhanced Virtual Disc which I still have to study up on because I still do not know what it means but at least I’m going in the right direction.
If the author of the instructions had simply written the three words it would have saved me about a half hour’s worth of feeling totally inadequate for the task I was endeavoring to complete.

In short, I would rather read full words than having to take so much time attempting to translate something akin to ancient Sumerian.

Them young whipper snapper technical writers! Just playing at one up-manship.
Nyah nyah; I know something you don't know...
Or maybe their boss told them to save time and write the initials and THEY don't know either.

The first time my grandson texted OMG to me, I asked him what was wrong with his girdle. Of course, he didn't know what a girdle was. I wonder how often younger people dismiss things said by older people as being clueless when they're actually joking or being sarcastic.

II was sort of thinking that yesterday.
Spats, Holy Cow! Kilroy was here.....All the things that used to be said that make little sense to kids only 2 decades old. Watching a mystery show and wondering why Columbo didn't just call on his cell phone. I don't talk to a lot of kids lately so I don't know the in phrases. I know some out ones.
The kids may not know what a gramaphone was but some don't even know what a walkman is. Things are moving pretty fast.

Well, when I tell young folks that I use to write in a UPS and FedX Books for shipping, they go "dang, you're old!" When I tell them that I use to type out purchase orders on a typewriter and do inventory on 3 x 5 Index cards, they say the same thing.

Texting and do abbreviations have really become the norm for young folks.

That’s precisely what you’d get: one or more drawings of a bucket of water.

Wonder if they knew some of our parents' abbreviations, like PDQ aka pretty damn quick, which usually meant they weren't happy with us and some stripes were on the way.
" you better get in here PDQ".

    etm is my new favorite...

"etm." can be used to abbreviate "and shit".

LOL! WTF! AFAIK this is from the Latin "et merda". It's been 60 years since high school, so I'm a little rusty.

I text with son, grandsons, and one brother, and we generally do not abbreviate. Also, I still put two spaces after a period, and try to capitalize the first word in a sentence, but sometimes my fat little fingers betray me. o_O

(I do refer to my SO's little yapper as a PITA - Pain In The Ass.)

I find it infuriating when I put 2 spaces after a period, and the software automatically reduces it to 1 space.
