Good morning to all- Ken- this is very nice of the forum to allow links. thank you. My most recent book- Kayak Fishing the Northern Gulf of Mexico can be found on Amazon. And Lessons Learned from Living in the Country can be found on Kindle. Many thanks. Good day to all- Ed
I can't find the first one but Lessons Learned from Living in the Country can be found by clicking the link. No, it's not an affiliate link. It's simply a link to the book in the Kindle store. You just made one sale. I even chose the purchase rather than the read-for-free Kindle Unlimited option.
Good day to all- Ken, thank you very much. I do hope you enjoy the read. you all be safe and keep well- Ed
And your published work often has a life of its own like your kids. Or ---no one reads it and it is DOA
I wrote an adventure novel, somewhere around 110,000 words, in the '90s (not published). I finished it around '96 I think and submitted it to an agent; he suggested some changes which I did, but then it never went anywhere. It was about guns and was politically-incorrect. Several friends read it and liked it. I spent hundreds of hours reading books about how to write books, and then writing, massaging, proofing, adding to the story, etc. I learned a lot -- one thing is that you can massage the words and structure endlessly. At some point you have to stop and move on. Another good lesson: Write a few pages or a chapter, proofread and correct as necessary, get away from it for a day or two, go back and you will see areas that can be improved. Self-publishing was just in its infancy, which I was preparing for but I never pursued it. It probably would have been the way to go. To accomplish something like this it has to be a burning passion. If it isn't, you will never get very far. And then I started a science-fiction novel, got maybe a third through it and that was that.
I always wanted to write a book I had ideas for two different story lines, for one of them I got as far as writing the outline. I may have posted this before, when my daughter was in school her teacher gave the class an assignment to write a story about an adventure in everyday life. I didn't help her with her assignment but the idea was in my head and that night a short story just popped in my head. I wrote it down and it got published in the local cultural news flyer.
Thinking about the short story I figured I lost it to the house fire we had. I remembered I took a picture of it with my phone I wondered if I saved it, I found it. I checked in all the spots I can think of where I might have posted it before, I couldn't find it, since it's appropriate for this time of year I decided to post here.
