Yes... the recipe I make is called Spinach Dal.... so Spinach and lentils. It's very tasty.. and totally healthy and vegetarian.. It's a really good side dish IMO.. but it can be a main dish too!!

I just looked on the calories on the red and brown. Brown is 70 calories for 1/4 cup and red is 130 calories per 1/4 cup.

That fact alone will make me choose the brown. This is whats on the bags in my pantry, don't know if there are different varieties of red ones that are less.

I forgot to say that the reason I bought the red/orange ones is because I liked the color but it fades a lot when cooked so I'm not going to be buying it anymore.

Good idea, why not? A whole wheat bun has less carbs, go for it Chrissy.

Yikes Ruby, maybe half the bun. I need therapy to eat a whole bun. :)

I am going to make that though when I get back home.

Yes Ruby, That is something I will waste time doing for myself. :)

Too cute though. Also don't eat rice. :)

Actually looks easy. Maybe when I visit my rice loving younger grandsons.

It is a seriously WET and chilly day here in northern Alabama today. It is definitely a Soup Day, so I am making lentil vegetable soup, and it will be an all-day meal that we can have whenever we are hungry. I like lentils, but I usually forget about making anything with them. When finding the recipe for the lentil soup, I also saw one for a lentil loaf (like meat loaf) , and I think that I will try that one out, too.

Here is the video for making the lentil soup, and the website with the recipe is listed in the video info.

The lentil soup turned out good, and I made corn bread to go with it. Now, I am doing the Great Lentil Experiment, and using the leftover soup as the base for my lentil meatloaf.
I used the immersion blender so that there would not be any big chunks of carrot or celery, and then added some of my dry black bean burger mix (from Augason Farms) and then some more seasonings and enough oatmeal to give it a loaf texture. It is baking in the toaster oven, and if it turns out good, then I can have a sandwich with it tomorrow.
If not, then the dogs get lentil burgers……

Yesterday , i made a lentil curry soup, and it was delicious ! The flavor is spicy, and that helps with keeping you warmer on a cold day like we are having this week.
My Humana insurance has special programs that you can watch, and this one was the video and recipe for making the lentil curry soup, so I decided to try it. I did not have everything in the recipe, so I substituted cayenne for the jalapeño, and left out the mustard seeds since i didn’t have any of those, and added carrots because i love cooked carrots. . I didn’t have fresh parsley, but added some dried parsley and a handful of chopped kale for more greens.
I used the immersion blender when it was almost done and blended part of the soup, so it had a thick base, but still had some chunks of carrots, onions, kale, and lentils.
I am definitely going to be making this more often this winter, I really like the flavor that the curry powder adds to the lentil soup.
(I think that they put the garlic in twice, I didn’t use anywhere near that much !)

I like Lentil soups and eat them a lot. I don't stand well in the kitchen any more, so I buy Progrewsso Lite and Amy's Organic....You can add any type meat to the soup,

The slow cooker is great for making easy soups, @Joy Martin , if you have one. I use a liner in mine, so I do not have to lift that heavy crockpot out to wash it each time. With the liners, cleanup is easy. You just have to be in the kitchen long enough to add everything into the crockpot, and eventually, the soup is ready.
Lentils are really healthy as long as you soak them good to remove as many of the lectins as possible, just like beans. I had no idea how potent lectins are until I read that eating just a few raw kidney beans can end a person up in the hospital ! That is the reason that castor beans are so deadly because they produce the ricin lectin and it kills people.
