It's just too bad that this important legislation had to be buried in that monstrous budget disaster. I have to wonder what else they have hidden away in there.

I bet all the important legislation that benefits the USA folks will be overlooked since there are 4100 pages that I doubt one single congressperson bothered to read or have their staff fully read. I bet the long pending approval for staying on one time year around was overlooked. The "woke" groups already have their people ready to implement all the crap that benefits their agendas. The benefits to other countries outweigh any benefits to the USA from what I have heard.

Yeah, I heard the same thing. Disgusting, really. I don't know why they don't consider each bill on its own merit.

I checked to see if Cornyn voted for it and he did. I had some email exchanges with him in the past few months that I hope swayed him a little. I let him know that I am a conservative woman and that I was GREATLY upset to see that past votes against the lymphedema treatment act were all REPUBLICANS. Medical necessity is not a damn political issue in my opinion. I think politicians are usually surprised that "ordinary people" are paying attention to what they do.

Anyway, after more than 12 years of trying to get this passed, people with lymphedema will have their medically necessary compression garments covered by Medicare. This was not a huge issue for me because fortunately I can afford to buy them, but for thousands of people it's the difference between needless suffering and getting proper care.

Excitement for today: As mentioned in another thread I used a cast iron skillet while making dinner. I use a quilted handle cover on the pan handle to remind myself not to grab it while it's red-hot. Apparently the burner flame was set too high; the "heat resistant" handle cover caught on fire.

    It's always something.

In Yvonne's "beautiful china cabinet" thread she mentioned Franciscan Desert Rose dinnerware, that I have loved for decades. I remember finding my first cup and saucer in a junk shop back in the 80s and I was hooked. I have had a love of dishes all my grown-up life and usually prefer stoneware to fine china. The most familiar Franciscan patterns are "Apple" and "Desert Rose," that are both hand-painted embossed earthenware dinnerware, originally created in 1940.

Mini-factoid: Elvis Presley owned Franciscan "Apple" and it is still displayed in Graceland.

Franciscan dinnerware originated in the USA but was also made in England. Around 2009 the company was sold to a Chinese company and is now made in China... as is Pfaltzgraff, "America's Potter." (But that's another post.) I have not purchased any of the Chinese product, and if I ever want to add to my collection it will be from the secondary market where I can still find American or English Franciscan.

Here are a couple of pics of my Desert Rose. Yesterday after I took the pictures I had to take a tea cup and saucer out to have a cup of Earl Gray. :D This is the one that started it all...

Thought I'd add a couple of photos of the Hallmark (or "maker's mark) on some of the dishes. Mine are a mix of made in USA and in England.

The better half was headed to Home Depot for some odds and ends so I asked him to pick up a couple of bags of garden soil so I can start estimating what I'll need for the two small raised beds this spring. He called to say that they have something called "raised bed mix" so I guess the soil companies are jumping on the trend bandwagon. Weird since I first had raised beds at least 25 years ago but now suddenly it's a "thing."

I told him to grab a couple so we can see what it's all about. Apparently it is amended with compost, fertilizers, bat guano, poultry manure and kelp meal. o_O Two cubic ft. for $9.99. No such thing as "dirt cheap" these days. :D

I love stoneware and have maybe a hundred pieces of Woodvine by Universal in the USA in the 1950s. I also have a couple of dozen Blue Cameo by Cameoware USA. Most of it is on high shelves except a few display pieces. My three hutches are full of depression glass, 1950s blue Canadian pyrex, and some antique Portual-made pottery. I still have hundreds of pieces of various depression and 40-60s glass I bought over 40 years on vacations. More than once I came home towing a loaded UHaul trailer. I also collected antique radios, tools, weather instruments, and kitchen appliances, or anything that spoke to me. I never had any Franciscan but an old friend did and it was offered to me very reasonably when she died. I had no room so I passed on it. I am still trying to downsize but the market for antique stoneware and depression glass took a dive. I had plans to cash it in after retirement. I sold one pickup load to a dealer for a loss and then no more interest.

Those are beautiful, Faye. The blue is breathtaking.

Weird that there is a HUGE demand for old CorningWare bowls and stuff but dishes don't stir up a lot of interest. You already know of my Fiestaware habit and the bulging cabinets...lol. I just LOVE dishes.

Last month my daughter came for Thanksgiving and I loaded her up with my Pfaltzgraff Christmas dishes, "Holiday Spice." I haven't used them in a few years and we don't have the big Christmas Eve shindig anymore. (And if we do in the future, I will purchase festive paper "ware.")

Do you prefer the plain or the designs? How about utensils? I have collected 5 colors now in spoons, folks, and knives from years of takeout. All the pieces are mint and unused.:)

Happy New Year, everyone. Hard to believe that another year has come and gone. I'm officially tired of winter and ready for springtime. My husband assembled one of the galvanized raised garden beds and it's a good size... similar to a bathtub (2'x4'x1' deep). I bought two of them so now I need to decide where I'm going to put them for maximum sun.

I have two iron trellises that I used in my previous larger raised beds and they should work fine in the galvanized beds...

I'm going to start some seeds under a grow light so hopefully they will be ready to transplant when the weather is right.
