Cold and overcast today, so I decided to try the chicken curry soup recommended by @John Brunner ...

I didn't feel like making naan, so we're having it with rice and garlic toast.

I was in a part of Charlottesville I don't frequent very often for a doctor appointment, and I swung by the Wegman's that's out there. It's the first time I've been in...it's quite overwhelming. I need to go back when I'm in a mood to just wander and absorb.

Anyway, they had a package of cooked calamari with dipping sauces, so I grabbed one for dinner. I'll have a salad with it.

Several years ago one of our pilots sent me a box of steaks and after a week they never showed up, so he got a tracer on it and it was near two weeks in transit but he ask me if I still wanted it delivered. I politely said no being pretty sure a small amount of dry ice does not last forever.

One of my favorites is meatloaf. Las Vegas has a casino out on the outer edge of I-15 and Highway 162 named the Klondike. Their daily lunch special was Meatloaf and veggies and a great gravy. Every time I traveled to Vegas I tried to be there at lunch time. Another special they had was a huge piece of strawberry short cake, I was never able to eat both on the same day. One of my old WWII vet friends would never have the regular lunch menu but he would eat that plate full of strawberry short cake. Even today I'm sure the prices are still a lot lower than any regular restaurants or cafes.

In the early 70s, I had a Coca Cola route in Old Town Alexandria. Once a week, my route took me to this seedy part of town by the sewage treatment plant (man, was it funky.) There was a hole-in-the-wall dive that served mostly liquid lunches. But they had the best cold meatloaf sandwich on cheap white bread, piled high with onions.

I haven't cooked for years and just use a microwave for convenience. If I were inclined to cook again it would sure be some meatloaf. With the outrageous prices today I seriously doubt I would ever cook again, for an old guy it is just bad math. Now if I ever see a frozen meatloaf I might consider trying it, sometimes you get lucky and find a good product. It is like canned chili, I buy only the Chestnut Hill Brand, they have both no beans and with beans. It is much better than wolf brand or hormel. A long time ago I bought a brand of chili which I think was named Stag, it was really great. Then I guess that's why it is smart to keep a bottle of pepper sauce and a few other things to help it along.

The better half is dining with his mom, so I'm having Marie Callender's Turkey Pot Pie.

You are experiencing a bit of my life, well that is before teeth removal. :D

I am thinking mashed potatoes with brisket broth gravy, but it is too early to set that in stone.

It seems to be rinse repeat around here anymore. I use to fix something different almost everyday for a month before I circled back around to repeat.

Anyway, we are having chicken salad sandwiches on toasted buns. The Mr. will have oven fries with his and I will have a dill pickle.

That's the way I feel, too. I get into a rut with "what's for dinner."

We had planned to have Firehouse meatball subs for dinner today but found that the local one has permanently closed. Now I'm thinking we'll have wings from WingStop. I love their garlic/parm wings.

I made enchiladas that came out a bit hot. A friend stopped by and started eating one and asked for a dollop of sour cream to cut the heat. I handled her the sour cream container and told her to help herself as I had no idea what a dollop was and she couldn't explain it. I checked it out and it appears I am the only one in the world that has never heard of a dollop as a cooking measure. I have heard skosh, pinch, thimble, sprinkle, and toss, but never dollop.

Good heavens. :p The Daisy sour cream commercial jingle says "use a dollop of Daisy!"
