Years ago, before I met/married, I knew a lady from Weatherford, Oklahoma. I was at her house and walked thru some grass and boy did the chiggers make a meal out of both of my legs. I was able to get rid of the itching sensation with Benadryl and they went away.
Then, when we lived in Jacksonville, Florida, I walked thru some grass at the apartment complex, going to our garage, and got nailed by chiggers there. Not as many bites as I had in Oklahoma, but definitely some. Out came the Benadryl and waited. The bites went away and I never walked thru the grass at that apartment complex again, even though the contracted Pest Control guy sprayed the grass.

LOL I do understand that! Hubby got them so bad in Central Georgia about 40 years ago he was going nuts at night, out of frustration he tried Ben Gay, BAD MISTAKE, FRIED HIS LEGS so then he was itching and burning.
I got one on me yesterday immediately rubbed it good with alcohol ,so far no more itch or bugs.

John thanks so much for the info sometimes I get side tracked and don't finish reply. Hubby is ordering this tick tornado now. I have been collecting them and dropping them in a small cup of alcohol.

Is Dawn an attractant to ticks so they will come and drown in the water?

Do you know the shelf life of CS? I have quite a bit and instructions for making but I prefer to use what I have first.

Hubbys dealing with the over growth and vines today with is pole saw and weed eater.so no ticks for me.
It is spring so vines are coming back with a vengence. So are small trees like the Confederate Rose aka Rose of Sharon, Bay and Holly. We try to keep the Bays and Hollys, they are pretty.

Just walking to mailbox, you get one or more, being in the woods is really bad. We keep getting tic's off and have to change clothes soon as we come in.

Anyone else have this problem in your state?

We had that really cold (down to zero) here at Christmas, so I am hoping that killed a bunch of the pest bugs, like ticks, fleas, mosquitoes. It is just starting to warm up enough for them to come out , and I think Bobby said he saw a mosquito the other day when the temperature was into the 70’s.
I bought Poodle some little stretch doggie “onesies” and they might help keep the fleas and ticks off when he is outside this summer.

We have ticks in the wooded mountains in the Eastern part of the state, but they are rarely seen at a lower elevation even in wooded areas. When I lived in the mountains, it was a daily routine to check for ticks.

Lucky you Faye, down here all insects love the climate. Most people don't like Florida because of 'bugs'.

You know I am now a true believer of using that dish soap DAWN the Blue stuff they use to clean animals and fowl that have been caught in oil spills. I found that a Fly and all flying insects can't tolerate it, fleas die on contact and I would bet ticks would go belly up also. Now with a fine spray bottle you can buy at a dollar store usually, mix it up not real strong and spray your pants legs a little and see if that helps. I had terrible fleas last summer due to the cats indoors but I would spray my legs and feet and never was bitten just aggravated that they were on me. They can only jump a foot and don't fly so they are a prime target for that dawn. Even those large outdoor roaches can't stand the stuff. Amazing that the soap contains no chemicals or something that would harm a human or critter. Any place I knew that the fleas were I would spray all around and it kept them down to a level that helped. I bought baking soda to mix with salt because you can kill fleas with it by sprinkling it where they are along the floors and baseboards etc., I thought better of it due to the age of the cats and the stuff could hurt the cats if they en-jested it which they could because they naturally lick themselves clean. I already came close to killing them using that fly spray in the kitchen. Luckily the one cat stopped having seizures and recuperated without any problems, he eats like a horse and never slows down and is the healthiest of the 3. I have one that is not healthy at all and the 3rd not great. I really believe those two may have been preemies and don't have the natural immune system they would have had if they had been raised by their Mother. I did the raising after I found them behind my kitchen stove and did the best I could using milk and getting them eating solid food probably too soon.

Thanks Thomas, will try that again. I thought of maybe spraying the area on the trails where I'm working on tree killer vines too. So far suffer works good on the chiggars.
These little seed tics are new to me, don't remember them in Stone Mountain, GA. as a kid.
We have a large garden sprayer I could use. I'm old and tired so may not be at it too much longer. But then I'll be old, tired and nuts from rural life. I get depressed.

Insects and snakes are the number one reason I am not walking the Florida beaches this morning.
