That's the hypothesis of an article by Steve McCann. Some excerpts and a summary are below.

The Democrat party has been a stain on the nation since its founding in 1828 by a virulently racist president, Andrew Jackson. It was the party of slavery and the Confederacy, it initiated racial segregation by legislating and brutally enforcing Jim Crow laws. It unabashedly aligned with and supported the Ku Klux Klan for over nine decades, thus promoting antisemitism, religious persecution and xenophobia.

An unemotional examination of the underlying philosophies and the tactics the Nazi Party used to gain and maintain power reveals not just the common impulse to weaponize the judiciary to eradicate one’s political opponents (e.g., Donald Trump) but numerous other similarities between the Nazis and the Democrat party that cannot be ignored. Here are eight uncomfortable dimensions of that resemblance. More at Source.
In summary, the areas of similarity noted by McCann are (1) racial and ethnic divisiveness, (2) the Nazi Party relied on street riots, property damage and gratuitous violence, (3) a staged fire broke out in the Reichstag (Congress) Building which the Nazis blamed on agitators, (4) rising antisemitism was a foundational principle of Nazism, (5) the Nazi Party was fixated on censorship and eliminating any cultural institution, publication or speech that did not fully support them, (6) Nazis practiced, if not perfected, the art of indoctrinating the citizenry through propaganda and “fake news.”, (7) the Nazis followed socialist ideology by preying on class envy to stoke tensions and resentment as they blamed the Jews and wealthy capitalists for their nation’s economic woes. and (8) the Nazis adopted extreme nationalism and government-controlled capitalism as a part of their foundational Marxist/socialist underpinning.

I find it interesting that the author points out that the Democrats were actually founded by Andrew Jackson, not Thomas Jefferson as many claim. He was responsible for the "Trail of Tears" when Jackson decided he "wasn't going to let a bunch of Indians stand in the way of progress" even though they had been his allies in warfare for decades previous. He was racist to the core and, for the most part, the Party has been racist throughout its history. I have commented in previous posts that I find it so ironic that the Republicans, who were founded on emancipation and have been pro-Civil Rights throughout history, are the racist party somehow, while the Democrats who fought against Civil Rights and are still trying to keep folks "on the plantation or "on the reservation" or "in the barrio" are supposed to be the champions of minorities.

Anybody read that first response by Susan Cook to that article? Interesting point she makes about the Nazis stealing their ideas from American progressives and democrats.

I now see that the ATF is working to make ex post facto regulations to make parts of guns illegal in order to make those owners felons. There are hearings in the House regarding these regs going on. There is also a move by the Administration to use powers given to the government during Covid to declare a "public health emergency" over gun violence and confiscate large numbers of guns using lists obtained form credit card companies and FFL holders that have been bankrupted by current economic conditions. One of the first things Hitler did when he had absolute power was to disarm the citizenry, something foreseen by the Founders and placed into the Constitution as the Second Amendment. Since I think they were listed in order of importance, it is the second most important right we possess, after freedom of speech, religion and assembly, all of which have been violated recently.

Meanwhile, we are sending arms by the millions to the Ukrainians, and NATO partners are going to send "depleted" uranium munitions, which the Russians consider to be dirty bombs, and the U.S. wants to send cluster munitions to them as well, which most of the world considers to be weapons of mass destruction, particularly due to their danger to innocent civilians and children. We support killing hundreds of thousands of people in other countries, but they don't want anyone here to be able to defend themselves.

Just look to the detailed history of Nazi Germany to understand the forces at work today.
