Good question. I never had it until a neighbor made some for me a few weeks ago. Baked spaghetti is the same thing as baked ziti, but with noodles rather than tubed pasta. There are different methods (layer like a lasagna, or just toss the noodles with the sauce and bake it.) The one I made was like a lasagna, with 2 layers of noodles, cheeses, and sauce (with Italian sausage.) I also threw a couple of layers of cottage cheese in mine (that Poor Man's Ricotta kept it moist when reheated), and first tossed the pasta with melted butter, an egg and grated Parmesan "just because." I know that making spaghetti is about the easiest dish one could concoct, but this lends itself to "make ahead/freeze/heat later." And baking it gives the noodles a chance to absorb the sauce.
