I forgot. One year my hubby asked my daughter, the taxidermist, for a skunk mount. She got him a soft mount--a literal stuffed animal and it sits on our TV cabinet. Can come in handy if one needs to 'surprise' someone.

I’ve been skunked at canasta, 9 ball and a couple of other games if that counts.

Do ya have any other questions that could be wrapped into a thread other than skunks? I mean, two years has gone by and something Has to have happened that would be a little more interesting to you than a cat with body odor.

I have a wood line about 100 feet behind me and all these cats living around here keep those skunks busy. Some nights it gets pretty rank. It always reminds me of pulling guard duty on my missile base launch area. Way out in the middle of a cotton field so you know how many skunks lived out there. You would be lucky to count two cars a day passing past the base for either direction coming in or going out. You never get used to it and if you're out there on guard duty in your gate shack you can't leave even if the skunks are having a party. Today it still looks exactly like it did 54 years ago when they shut it down except of course for all the rot and sand blasting of the concrete in the area. I assume the skunk population is about the same.

Two years later and we're still soaking in tomato juice. Beside, I find it comforting. There are very few truly black & white issues these days.

I never have but my Yellow Lab ran up to a skunk & got sprayed. He ran into the house, rubbed his face in several pairs of shoes & jumped on the bed, then he ran upstairs.
I threw the bed & shoes away & gave him a bath with stuff I found online - baking soda, peroxide, dish soap. It worked.
Then I sprinkled baking soda everywhere he went & vacuumed. Also, I left several bowls of vinegar in some rooms. The smell still took a few weeks to completely go away.
After that experience, I go outside without him on summer nights & check the area for skunks (and coyotes) before letting him out.

Around here people have been concerned about rabies in skunks.
This year, the population seems down.
One year, in the fifties, hubby's aunt had a skunk family move in under her back porch. Not sure what they did about it back then. Probably wait till the babies were old enough to leave home. Kinda like people families.
I always worried when live trapping about catching skunks (and getting skunked). I have a plan but it hasn't happened yet.

My brother had a cottage in Northern Ontario and he had a skunk problem they would com up and snoop around the house at night, So I showed him how to shoo them away by taking the garden hose and chasing them with that. they don't spray and just leave.
