In my mind, they’re supposed to be voting for a good interim President more so than a Speaker.
I like Donalds and he’s an avid Trump supporter but I’m not sure he can fill the catbird seat.
More and more it looks like Biden is going to have to abdicate which leaves us with Kamala who will undoubtedly be impeached if there’s enough time left before the next elections.

I’m still on Jordan’s side of the ring but at this point, if they picked a trained chicken who pecks out yankee doodle on a kid’s toy piano, it would be better than having to say President K. Harris.

If I'd have understood that Nancy Pelosi was in line with the Presidency as SOH, I would have probably ended up in a mental hospital, ward. Did we dodge a bullet or what!! Someone please tell me that a democrat can't get into the SOH position as long as there is a Republican that they can vote in? I'm totally praying for biden's advocating, and Kamala being taken care of. So if they both are "canned" is that when the Speaker of the House, whoever that may end up being, would take over the WH??

It's interesting to compare how the Democrats operate as one and in lockstep with each other, but Republicans tend to be more independent. Not sure what that means. I'm guessing that some Dems can't believe their good fortune to have money come their way to get elected with Fetterman and Harris being prime examples, so they essentially have their votes bought and paid for.

me too Beth, my sentiments exactly. Are each of their egos outgrown their effectiveness, they gripe and gripe about the dems not working with Rep. and now they can't seem to work together even with their own kind:mad:

That's true. But then each time the stupid Republicans have a majority, they squander all opportunities to accomplish anything by being a bunch of self-serving morons.

I had the thought later that Republicans act like advocates of the priorities of their individual states, so they have a hard time coming to a consensus, where for Dems, it's party first.

I believe any politician is the "advocate" of the highest bidder. I'm jaded.

Tom Emmer (R-MN) dropped out after winning the majority of votes in the Republican caucus. Only 20 voted against him. He would have been the best choice, imo. The group of 8 (of which Jordan used to be a member) doesn't want a speaker unless it's their choice. They are holding the House hostage.

I don't see how they'll agree on anyone if they can't agree on Scalise or Emmer. My guess it will end up McHenry for a temporary term with a few Democratic votes. Byron Donalds is only a freshman. I think experience matters in a job like Speaker.

Someone named Mike Johnson has been nominated according to what I have read. I know nothing about him, and I won't bother looking him up as he too will probably be rejected by somebody.

Here is what is online about Mike Johnson. He is from Louisiana, is apparently a Trump supporter, voted against certifying the 2020 election, and is part of the Freedom Caucus. He is more of a “doer” than a “talker”, which is why most of us have not heard much about Johnson.
Here is a list of his voting record, some of which seems good, and some not so good.
The overall consensus from my Twitter page, is that he would be an alright speaker. Posting as a thumbnail because it is a long list.

He (Johnson) is saying the right things so far, mostly. Sometimes a person rises to the occasion when given responsibility. It will be interesting to watch.
