    I am sure the new blimp, for that is all it is, is filled with non-flammable helium. They were found to be unstable, not just from fire, but also from windstorms that could blow them off course. I don't know what they plan to do with this thing, but the hangers are impressive. I was stationed at both Lakehurst, N.J., where the Hindenburg crashed and at Moffett Field. where the picture was taken.

    The article indicates it's "a new era in greener flight." :rolleyes: So maybe AOC can ride it to work. Interesting that they are using the WWII era hangars.

    As an aside, the author of that article suffers from Chronic Quotation Mark Syndrome. I seldom see someone using more quotes per square inch than I do.

    Beth, sometimes I just don't get authors of articles, especially misspelled words. Guess they don't have "spell check", where a red squiggly line appears under the word.

    It appears, from the article, this one will be used, if all tests are passed, for transporting heavy equipment/supplies. Then again, there is the Goodyear Blimp that has been flying around for years, if it still does. When I lived in So California, I would pass the Blimp tied up to the ground in Carson, California next to the 405 freeway.

    I had a 2-hour ride on one of the Goodyear blimps once. It was fun, but I probably could have walked faster.....

    My Amazon packages:
    UPS …..order on Wednesday and will arrive on Saturday.
    USPS…….order on Wednesday and will arrive on Friday.
    Blimp…..order on Wednesday and …uh…you’ll get it whenever it gets there.

    Seriously though;
    Trains, planes and trucks do crash from time to time but all it would take is an idiot with a grudge and a rifle to bring that puppy down.
    Maybe they’ve thought of that and maybe they fly too high and/or have self sealing cells. Either way, to me the whole thing is counterproductive.

    I wouldn't like to travel in that thing. Even if the wind didn't blow it off course, it would take forever to get anywhere with a speed of only 75 MPH.

    I think they are designed with self-sealing cells, but even the dirigibles had those and that didn't always work, but it did make them difficult for the Brits to shoot down in WWI.

    I suspect many are still happy with their choice. He doesn't send mean tweets, but he doesn't know where he is or what he's saying much of the time.
