I recall when Washington Redskins running back John Riggins (11,000 career yards) was poop-faced at an event attended by then-Supreme Court Justice O'Conner, who had to leave early. Wanting to keep the party going, he leaned over and said "Come on Sandy, baby, loosen up. You're too tight." She was classy about it. Riggins later sent flowers and an apology to O’Connor, and years later, she returned the favor, presenting him with flowers at an event. Upon hearing of her passing, Riggins wrote "I am so saddened by the passing of the Supreme Court’s First Lady. Back in ’85 our chance meeting at the White House Correspondents Dinner became an international event. And, over the years our paths would occasionally cross, which usually led to a memorable occasion. Here’s to you Sandy, baby, you’ll always be the greatest!” Justice O'Conner was 93 when she passed.
