I had Thanksgiving day lunch/supper planned with a friend. She was sick, so we did it on Friday. It tasted the same, howbeit a day late. We fixed Cornish Game hens, Stovetop chicken flavored stuffing, Jellied cranberry sauce, Idaho garlic and buttered mashed potatoes. and chocolate pie. It was tasty.

Today I am invited out to another friends for their Thanksgiving dinner, off by two days due to sickness and work schedules. I think I will eat my leftovers at noon and then go out for the socializing, games, and pies. I have no left over pie here today, so the abundance of pies tipped the scales for me. I don't like big crowds and noise, but a couple of games and pie might be worth it.

All my Christmas decorations are up, both inside and out. I took advantage of the two cool but sunny days we had before Thanksgiving. A couple of the fake Grand Nieces came over later and we had hot chocolate, pizza, and played Bananagrams. I won only once, against those nimble fingered girls. They had words out before I could get my tiles turned over. We had a few laughs such as when I won by adding a T on top of the word "it," and then followed the t with my remaining tiles i e s.

I was really bothered by underarm swelling and soreness yesterday. My old doc, now near retirement, and impossible to see in person, requested a photo, so I had a friend take a photo on my cell and I sent it to her. It isn't hard or feel lumpy. She consulted my oncologist, and they both say nothing to worry about, just lymphedema that I no doubt aggravated, doing the gyro antics necessary to repair my dryer the day before. My PCP added that I might reconsider my anti bra rebellion and don my high neck front zip bra with the zipper all the way up, no barely zipped beach babe nonsense. I did my workout this morning wearing the "straight jacket" bra and the swelling is down. Seeing it in the mirror at my early morning inspection yesterday, was a bit frightening.

Note to self: When doing gyro antics, don the straightjacket bra and compression sleeve.

    Good grief, Faye.

I thought I'd try to get to know people here by reading some of the diaries and I'm so sorry you're having so many health problems.

I also think I'm going to try to wean myself off my daily dose of Omeprazole for my acid reflux and opt for the quarter teaspoon baking soda instead.

I've been taking vinegar for my acid reflux. It's really helped. I've been doing it for over a year now.

One to two tablespoons twice a day, diluted with 3-4 tablespoons of warm-to-hot water (so you don't trash your tooth enamel or burn your esophagus.) I add a little honey and a dash of Ceylon cinnamon to mine. I also use Bragg brand of organic unfiltered vinegar because it contains the "mother" (beneficial bacteria.) Most every grocery store carries Bragg.

Vinegar helps those with acid reflux more than bicarbonate among those I know with the problem. The problem actually seems to be too little acid, not too much as many believe, but there is no pharma money in vinegar or baking soda for that matter. My wife went on the SIBO diet and it completely turned her life around. She had tried both the vinegar and baking soda, but things got steadily worse until she went SIBO, after which she quit PPIs completely and her health has improved dramatically since then. Eventually she found that wheat, rice and dairy were her big problems, and if she avoids those everything is peachy. She cna now eat aged cheeses, like sharp cheddar, in small quantities, but no milk or soft cheese. Maybe a diet change would help @Andrea Lindsey.

I absolutely agree that it is vital to have enough digestive acid, @Andrea Lindsey , and if a person does not have enough, then the food cannot digest and would just sit in the stomach. This can lead to all kinds of problems in the gut, plus the person does not get the needed nutrients from their food.
Dr. Davis book, Wheat Belly, goes right along with what @Don Alaska just said, that wheat and other grains can cause a lot of digestive problems.

Also…… Welcome to the SOC forum, Andrea ! I love your avatar, it is so pretty and feminine and reminds me of one of the old-time movie stars.

Oops. I completely overlooked the new lady in the neighborhood! Welcome from Virginia, @Andrea Lindsey. If you wish, you can put up an Intro thread here.

And I, too, like your avatar. Reminds me of the pre-special effects days, when you actually had to act.

Thanks Yvonne, it's silent screen star Clara Bow. I couldn't use my own face because I've never put any pictures online, but I didn't want to take a living person's face off Google Images, so I figured Clara would be safe. The only thing she and I really have in common is lots of wild wavy hair.

    {Sorry to derail your story, Faye.}

No wonder your avatar looks like a movie star; it is one !
As John mentioned, we have a section for introductions of you would like to do that. It is optional, and some people enjoy writing their introduction and others just jump right into the forum.
It is always nice to have a little basic information if you are willing to share, like what area you are from (US, Canada, etc) . It seems like you are integrating into the forum with no problems, But John and I are both Greeters and would be happy to help if you have questions about how anything here works.

If the Omeprazole is working for you with no side effects, then I see no reason to change. I have several friends that have taken 20mg every morning for years with no side effects and it controls their acid reflux nicely. 20 mg every morning didn't help me very much and any increases caused me muscular discomforts, so I was taken off it. I have a very high acid system and have since early adulthood and no doctor or therapy, diet, medication either natural or synthetic's changes it permanently. The reason I have no teeth is because the acid eroded the enamel, requiring thousands spent every year at the dentist. I think it is a good idea to take a Magnesium capsule (better than the pills) every morning if you take Omeprazole.

If you opt to use soda, then take a quality vitamin B complex supplement every morning. Soda tends to deplete some of the B vitamins.

I think it very necessary to point out that all our systems are different and one therapy doesn't fit all. I have never been one for all the different diets and anti this food or pro that food. For me the balanced diet made famous by Dr. Sears cannot be beat and it is based on the human bodies need for fat, protein, and carbs in a ratio that doesn't cause rushes, IE glucose or endolymph.

Welcome to the forum @Andrea Lindsey. I knew immediately who your avatar was. Reading diaries does sound like a way to get an idea about members here. I can save you some time concerning one such as myself. I am 73 and eccentric. I have accomplished so many different things in my life, none to a world's best level, but all to an acceptable level. I call myself a Jill of all Trades and a mistress to none. I have lived in the rural west my entire life and been a widow for 53 years starting the 23rd of this month.

I will end this post here, because December is the hardest month of the year for me. For those that don't know my story, my baby came a couple months early, couldn't keep breathing and lived for one hour. I ask to see her and hold her. I did and sang her a little song, then offered her to my husband whom got a crazy look on his face, He ran out of the hospital to our beautiful restored old pickup, put his 45 to his head and pulled the trigger.

Faye, only someone who has lost a child can know the depths of your grief. Then losing your husband that way must have been unbearable.

So, here's a hug for you.
