It is more about the Rorschach Test the initial post serves as for those who replied. Well, that and the horrifying results exposing a psychosis in nearly every response. Is it cultural and widespread today, or did the question's nature select for emotionally fragile people who projected their phobias onto the scenario?
I don't know. I think lots of people go around loaded with a supply of righteous indignation, just waiting for someone to light the fuse. The target does not always have to be in focus.
