I got mostly Gram from the grands....and playing around Gram Cracker...it was fun, Their paternal grandmother was more straight laced and both grandmothers had the same first name.
Hmm. I've recently come to understand that taller women have some of the same "problems" as heavy ones, and I suppose bald ones, unreconstructed tomboys, and on and on when it comes to "being asked to the ball." Say a tall gal hits it off with a guy a few inches shorter than her, but he calls her "Baby-Doll." Would you expect her to harbor resentment, or mistake it as sarcasm, or otherwise basically hate when he calls her that? Obviously it depends on how he says it, her discomfort level with her body, and her personality. But might it feel like a curvy gal being called "Skinny" by her guy? I can see it now. Out with a group, not all close friends. The guy says "My Delicate Flower, would you pass me a slice of pie please? Thank you, Skinny-Minnie."
My mother was "mom," although it sometimes came out as "mum," but I never thought of it as being spelled that way. Occasionally, there would be a "Yes, mother," when I was in a sarcastic mood.
Dad was dad and somewhere along the line it became Pop. Dunno what I called my mother but I referred to my stepmother as mom. So far as the live in’s and my second stepmother, I called them by name and mentally called them “temporaries”.
I called both of my step-parents "mom" and "dad". However, many years ago, I dated a woman whose daughter called her by her first name. I don't know why, but I sure didn't like it. Just one reason I broke up with her.
Calling our parents by their first name is not a issue and we make it so. I don't know the history of mom dad etc and not willing to dig for t hat....it is what it is and over the years I know I called my parents Ann and Mike... They didn't call us daughter and son all the time....we have names....... Cody a reason you broke up with gf, that is so petty...
Joy, it wasn't petty to me and I'm extremely glad that I did break up with her. Other than this lady, that I dated awhile, I've never heard of anyone calling their parents or grandparents by the first name. Never!
Maybe you didn't hear first names, but I',m SURE many called by their first names and more.....you talk like you heard from 1000's or more people, you have limited info on all of it. Such nonsense!!!!!! Open your mind more Cody,,, ...You come across as Black and White, life is a Ton of Grey....

I would never have even considered calling either of my parents by their given names. It just wasn't done in the place and time I grew up. And likewise I would not have allowed my kids to call me by my given name; it seems disrespectful somehow to me, but that's my opinion.

Whatever. I adored my parents and I would never consider calling them by name. I was raised to respect them and I do. They were the best parents anyone could ever have and I was a lucky kid.
