Woo hoo!! My seeds are here. I ordered from Seeds N Such in Augusta GA; I have had good results with their seeds. They sent me two packets of freebies... some "Taiyo" Sunflowers and "42-Day Tomatoes" which I have not tried. I had to look up the sunflowers and see that the plants grow 5-6' tall with large 10-12" heads. Guess those won't work in the Aerogarden.
I order from Seeds and Such as well, @Beth Gallagher. I, too, have been overall pleased by their seed quality. Our quantities probably differ though.
I froze some seeds for 10 years and I think some of them were from Seeds Such, not sure have to look at them again. I wish we didn't start so many giant sunflowers, now have to find a place tro put them in the spring. Hope they transplant well too.
We are going to try this menthid using all the brush and growth too close to trees, etc,. It is new to us and may save us labor on fertilizer and mulch. I've been busy plus too much time online so getting busy hopefully growing food. Hope alls well, take care.
I hope it goes well for you @Marie Mallery. I have known people up here to try it without much success, but our growing season is too short and the weather too cool to do this easily. You should be able to do it well as you have much warmer winters and summers than we do.
I think lasagna gardening is laying down layers of things that maintain moisture and are a barrier to weeds, like non shiney cardboard. Mulch of various kinds on the top and bottom to fertilize and encourage earthworms and good bacteria.
Yeah, that is basically the technique. You construct a bed or garden as you would a pan of lasagna. You should wait for most of it to compost however, and that is the problem with it here. Things compost so slowly here that it takes forever before the beds are ready to plant.
I will have to watch, Beth, since we're gonna do it; but; "Mary Stetler", summed it up pretty well, I think; like Don said. Marie is always telling me not to put up long videos, that no one would watch, everyone is too busy for that.
Don I understand that , here in Florida we have long hot summers and can't grow most things but like you said, we do have a longer growing period in winter, spring and fall.
