We were up in the next town a few weeks ago. Stopping by for a cup of coffee in our favourite shop. On that day, they offered a piece of Turkish Milk Cake to accompany our Java shot . It was heavenly... As we couldn't find it in any shops, I checked YouTube videos for a simple recipe. Whoa! Bit pricey for all the ingredients and all. Well, I've rectified the situation as on tight budget but love speciality desserts from around the world... So, here's my, on the sly, Turkish Milk Cake. Grab a Sponge Mix from shop, following instructions make cake. I skip the tree leches to soak the cake (as our version with our coffees didn't include those. Got UHT Double Cream and whipped it with a spoonful of caster sugar. Finally, got a can of Caramel Condensed Milk. BUILDING CAKE Once your sponge cake is cooled, spread whipped cream and reserve a little for decorating on top. Next cover the whipped cream with the Caramel Condensed Milk. Using an icing pipe, make straight lines of whipped cream on top of the caramel. Using a knife or toothpick, make crisscross patterns. Leave to set in refrigerator at least half an hour. Cut a piece (aka half the cake lol lol lol!) and enjoy with tea or coffee! Below is a video of the simplest recipe I'd found earlier...
Looks good. The Tres Leches (three milks) cake is common around here. It is a Mexican recipe and we have a large hispanic population and lots of Mexican restaurants. Your Turkish version sounds good, Caitlin.
