The TikTok ban bill is speeding through Congress. Those who have read the bill (not many voting for it) say that it gives the President and Attorney General authority to shut down foreign websites or under the influence of foreign government. Since Trump has been accused of being under "foreign influence", Truth Social may be subject to being shut down by Biden. It appears to be a Trojan Horse. TikTok is certainly a mind control app controlled by China, but People like Donald Trump and Rand Paul, as well as some of the Conservatives in Congress are warning of the dangers of going down a censorship journey. The bill was originally apparently supported by Google since it considers that media to be a competitor. Does anyone here use TikTok?
I do not use tik tok, but I have been reading about this bill in the news, and it apparently does not even specifically say it is just for that website, but could be used for other social media websites once it starts by banning one of them. Several American companies are talking about buying tik tok, and Rumble is one of the ones wanting to buy it so that it can be run as an American company.
I don't use Tik Tok. But this is how people willingly give up their freedoms...pass a bill to get rid of the boogeyman, then apply it to your political enemies.
Part of the problem with Tik Tok is those young people that read about a dangerous challenge and go out and try it. Some have actually died from trying the challenge.
Here is Trucker Carlson and Rand Paul talking about the bill. the issue is not that tik tok might not need better regulations, the issue is how the government is going about this. The same things happened on facebook, instagram, and other social networks as happen on tik tok, but nobody in government cared when that was happening.
Heck, the internet had "Jackass" causing that a long time ago. (I shall refrain from making any moral remarks regarding Darwin, cleansing the gene pool, etc.)
Ban anything run by China. China knows more about the people using Tik Tok than they know about themselves.
I remember decades ago when China was not letting certain websites be accessed by Chinese citizens. It was referred to as "The Great Firewall of China." And now, we're looking to do that here.
It's all a part of the leftist progressive agenda that calls for controlling every aspect of our lives, particularly access to information.
They still do have the Firewall @Jenna Parnellson. The Chinese can't use Facebook or X/Twitter, and TikTok is an educational system in China, not a mind-sucking idiocy.
An interesting turn in what is happening on TikTok. Perhaps, to appeal to more of the younger voters, President Trump has established a TikTok account now. Already, Trump supporters are also joining the social media company, and my thought is that when the millions of Trump supporters (or even part of them) join TikTok, it will fundamentally change what is being put on the channel. We have already seen patriotic Americans posting good information on the channel, and with even more registering there, it will be interesting to see what happens. I know that I read that several American companies (maybe including Truth Social ?) had talked about buying into the company so that it would not be Chinese controlled and possibly banned in the US; and I am wondering if this has happened, and who bought it out. President Trump already has way more followers on TikTok than Biden has. Trump has over 5 million followers, and he just joined. Biden doe not even have half a million followers yet after all this time.
I wonder if this is another example of Trump making the corruption of our domestic enemies highly visible. Shine a bigger spotlight on the business that the Emperor-in-Chief thinks he can repress.
