Talking to a friend w ho is a year older than me and just got hit with UTI's after not having any
for years. Reading about what to do and I do them all, take extra Vit C, I take Amla too and its stronger than Vit C and then the years of Grape Seed Ex, also stronger than Vit C and Vit E...

She can't take extra vit c as she would have loose bowels all the time.

She knows about DMannose and UT Answer....

Another friend swears by femDophilus by Jarrow. Need to be in refrig.

#1: Good hygiene (especially for females)
    #2: Stay hydrated

I don't know how efficacious D Mannose really is for prevention. I know it's not cheap.

I'm not prone to UTI's, but if I get one my first "to-do" will be to call my doctor. Many seniors don't drink enough water and get dehydrated, which can also cause urinary problems.

I'd definitely would drink much more water but I'd be peeing every hour and so I my my best on the H20 but i truly feel the stuff I take keeps me good....C, Amla, GrapeSeedEx..I've never needed Mannose but if I had to try it t he cost is negligible as I see it....years of long ago I remember the misery of UTI's....

    On Amla:

Apart from juice, Amla can also be taken in powder or tablet form. Amla's antimicrobial, antibacterial, and diuretic properties help to soothe the inflamed mucosa of the urinary tract, through which relief is ensured to the patient with UTI, especially from the burning sensation.Apr 28, 2023

I'll mention the cream of tartar to my friend.

For guys, crank up the Uristat because it’s gonna be a long and painful haul.

I’ve had a couple of bladder infections and yup, the cranberry juice cleared ‘em right up but an e-coli produced UTI is another matter entirely.
After a gallon or two of cranberry juice with no relief, it was time to see a doctor who gave me a week’s worth of antibiotics and prescription size Uristat.

    The Uristat you may ask?
It’s a must have pain killer specifically made for UTI’s. It’s a given that staying hydrated is great advice but without the pain killer, having to bite a pice of leather and have a stout safety bar to grip onto whilst urinating is not an encouragement for more hydration.

    I digress.
The initial UTI went away within 7 days only to return with a vengeance and within another week or so, it was back to the doctor to get another type of antibiotic and this time it was twice a day for 14 days.
The thing about this time though is that the infection dropped and one of the boys was swollen to 3 times its normal size making it impossible to do anything that the human male is outfitted to do under normal circumstances without feeling like one just slipped down on the top bar of a men’s bicycle.
Sitting, standing, walking, scooting onto the seat of a vehicle or even laying down took a great amount of care and a higher threshold for pain because no matter what, it’s not a question of whether or not it’s gonna be painful but how painful is it going to be.

Nuff said and long story short, everything went back to normal within two weeks and I’m happy now.

Too high of a dose of Vitamin C supplements can cause kidney stones. So I Was told.

If your friend wears an adult diaper, panty liners, or anything else for incontinence, those things must be changed multiply times a day. If not, bacteria can breed and cause UTI’s. There is no air flow/ breathability with those things.

As far as cleanliness, that is NOT the only reason women get UTI’s. Most women who get UTI’s regularly are very conscious about hygiene and ALL the rules that go with it. Women after menopause can get UTI’s, even if they never had them before because of lack of hormones and certain bacteria.

“If you have repeated UTIs, you've experienced the toll they take on your life. However, you may take some comfort in knowing that they aren't likely to be the result of anything you've done. "Recurrent UTIs aren't due to poor hygiene or something else that women have brought on themselves. Some women are just prone to UTIs," says infectious diseases specialist Dr. Kalpana Gupta, a lecturer in medicine at Harvard Medical School.” After menopause, certain physical changes help set the stage for UTIs. The numbers of Lactobacilli in the vagina naturally decline. The bladder also contracts less strongly than it once did, making it more difficult to empty it completely.”

Yep, cranberry juice and lots of water always worked for me, along with ordinary hygiene. Drinking lots of water is so good for prevention.

Ohhh, I didn't give up Pepsi completely. No, no Nanette. I cut back drinking Pepsi drastically but didn't give it up.

I don’t know the amount, Joy. I was told this information by some of my doctors, nurses, and some individuals that taking mega doses of Vitamin C supplements can cause kidney stones. If you don't have any problems, yay for you!

And of course, the all-powerful, wise, knowing, and never wrong, Dr. Google, said so as well! :D
