Yes, it is nice. My SIL (wife's older sister/80), retired Special Education teacher, signed up for subbing, at the school district she retired from. Unfortunately, she hasn't been called and she thinks it's because of her age now. A few years ago she was able to "sub", but she was younger than. We will be going up to Vegas three times next month (December) for NFR Autograph Sessions and Cowboy Christmas. She will take off two days from work for Bareback and Saddle Bronc Autographs (1-day each) during the week and we will be there the first Saturday/Sunday for the Tie-Down Autograph Session at MGM on Saturday. Will watch a few go-arounds of the NFR from South Point Viewing Room and from Excalibur. Hopefully Vegas will have their Christmas lights out in full and the whole Formula 1 mess cleaned up.
If I didn't own my home and had to rent, I'd have to work full-time. As it is, I work part-time and do some other stuff for money to live more comfortably. I'd work anyhow, though.
We both quit our jobs in Oct 2007 to move to NC. I had a very hard time getting another one in Purchasing/Inventory Management after we moved. Those types of jobs were in the bottom area of Charlotte, and I didn't want to drive that far again. In my last job, I drove 28 miles each way. My wife totally understood and agreed. So, after my Emergency UI ran out, which I was able to get after being unemployed for a solid year, we decided that I should take SS Early Retirement. At least it was some money coming in for me. IOW, I wasn't about to go back to "labor" work and that's all that was available where we lived, and again, my wife totally understood. It was decided that I would take care of things in the apartment, as in doing laundry, vacuuming, stripping/changing bed linens and whatever, while she worked. Absolutely no problem for me! All I have is a high school diploma and two online Certificate of Completion classes for Purchasing/Inventory Management. She has two AA Degrees and a Bachelors Degree in Business/Accounting. However, when we moved back to Colorado from Jacksonville, Florida, she was out of a job for a little over a year. Even though she quit her job in Florida, to move back to Colorado, she still got UI. During the Pandemic in 2020, she got a very nice "added on" amount from UI for being unemployed during the Pandemic. As for me, I continued getting my Early Retirement SS. So, our agreement, "I (wife) work and you (Cody) take care of cleaning and stuff" has really worked out great and still does.

I have not read everything here. But my two cents worth, after I was laid off a second time at the age of 61, I found after doing time with temp agencies, the best thing was getting temp work (on-call-auxiliary) at my local college which actually morphed into fulltime work. I worked until 67 but other temps are working there hired at 70 years of age.
We have a Foster-Grandparents program here where you can say yes or no to a day of work. I don't know if your wife is into helping in a class-room but that's what they do. It's pays a small-stipend, not sure how much. Maybe something in your area like that. They are always hiring here but again, it takes people that want to work with children since teachers can't always work with each, in an individual manner. If interested a friend was on the run up to her age now, almost in her 80s now, and can still do it. She was doing it when I first met her almost 9 years ago. She'll find something Anyone who wants to work will find something, even if it isn't ideal, it will look good on a resume
