Not to change the thread, but, the entire 10 1/2 years we lived in Jacksonville, Florida, we only seen one gator out in the open. It was a young one laying by a fenced-in retention pond by a boat ramp. It seemed to like me taking pictures of it. Thing is, we were told that there are gators all over the place in Florida. "Step out the backdoor of your house and one could be there waiting on you" we were told. That sure didn't happen to us!

Thanks for the laugh Cody, and your right they do seem to exenterate the gator thing. Of course, every year we hear about another person being eaten by a gator. Do Not feed them, they don't know the between you and the snack.

I hear they are noisy. But may be better than snakes. Of course, snakes do kill rodents.

Geese are certainly noisy, at least some breeds, but they are also good "watchdogs" of your property.

I've heard that too, now watching the place is what I'd like. I think I'll study more on this.

Ones I had never lived that long, but they suffered form predation and, of course, I ate one or two myself.:) Our first two were named Christmas and Thanksgiving. We ate Thanksgiving, but Christmas started laying wonderful eggs and that changed her fate. We don't have snakes here, but they still served as a watchdog. Some breeds (Chinese Weeder Geese) will clean up weeds around your place too, but I never trusted them in the garden.

This guy has been doing this for 40 years & he claims he's never been bitten. I wouldn't do it; I only handle non venomous. But it illustrates a fact that snakes don't bite unless they feel threatened.

A snake's first reaction is to escape; not to bite. A snake will bite if cornered & has no means of escape. To illustrate that, this guy tried to get 50 Rattlesnakes to chase/attack him:

The same applies to a venomous spider.

I'm not sure I agree with that. I came up on a copperhead with my tractor where it had plenty of room to escape:

It had plenty of room on all sides, but it struck my front end loader!!! Honestly, I don't recall how close to it I got.

    Maybe it doesn't like Kubotas.

We have lots of spiders here mainly the ones I run into are what locals call the banana spider, it builds its web about 5' off the ground and I always unknowingly walk into them. and have to pull them and wed off my face.
I thought my oldest daughter would have a nervous breakdown she witnessed the act a few years ago, she has the worst spider phobia.

The world's shortest snake is the Barbados thread snake adults are typically 4.1 inches and weigh about 6 grams.
