This happened yesterday, and the first news that came out said there was bad weather conditions, and they did not know if anyone survived the crash or not. The Iranian president had flown to oversee the opening of a dam, and was on the way back home when the crash happened.
They are saying that a storm and dense fog came in suddenly and might have caused the crash, but there are now also reports that it looks suspicious, and that the helicopter might have been taken out with a missile fired from a plane or drone high above the helicopter.

There are pictures on the internet that supposedly show the body being carried out, and several pictures of the crash. However, the helicopter looks different on some of the pictures, so it is hard to tell which ones are real and which are used from some other incident.

The president was known as the “Butcher of Tehran “ because he had so many people killed during his times as president, and there were also pictures of the Iranian people setting off fireworks because they were happy he was dead.

I saw this mentioned on a news service, then I looked it up online. The Foreign Minister was also on the helicopter as well as several other high government official including the governor of the state they where the dam was located. I immediately thought Israel had done this, but I have seen no reference to that possibility.

I've read bits & pieces of this story. So who's set to take his place? Someone even more of a butcher?

Maybe. The son of the current Ayatollah is the other choice. He is reputed to be vicious but with no charisma, so everyone absolutely hate the guy...except for daddy.

    The Middle East mystifies me.

So many stories of ongoing bizarre regimes that it is hard to imagine the people tolerating so long. So much message filtering in the media that I never know what to believe. So many corporate and monied interests with fat fingers in the pies. So much influence in D.C. when those... idiots... are supposed to be representing us not religious tribes or multinationals.
