Facebook helped my find my silkie rooster, Jeffrey even though I don't have an account. I used to put Jeffrey out by our deck for the daytime. But hubby started trimming the yard and Jeffrey got scared and ran into the woods. I told my neighbor, next door that he would not come in and I could not find him So she put some sort of alert on facebook and I heard people around saying "Now we have to find a chicken?" and a little later someone said, incredulously, "There actually IS a chicken!" and I heard crashing through the woods. I asked the people to please not chase him. I called him and he struggled through the under brush to make it home. Still won't have a facebook account, though.
I've seen people on NextDoor report missing critters (and stolen vehicles), and those who are on Facebook post it there to get some help.
I don't mind disagreement on issues if the person on the other side actually offers his opinion of something, say immigration, for example. A debate of policy and ideas is good and very different than a troll who visits the site he dislikes to bait the people there into attacking him. That kind of person will not actually debate policy, they call names, post insults and then pretend to offer good wishes, etc. etc. If they actually think another candidate has better policy we never hear it. We only hear 'orange man bad' and that is the extent of the troll's intelligence. It gets very old and tiresome very fast.
Far too many on the Left, and, to be fair, some on the Right, don't know enough about anything to be able to make a reasonable argument for what they consider to be their positions. Since questioning Leftist talking points is something they would never do, there's no reason for them to go any further than mindlessly parroting the talking points.
I have very little use of FB. I do not use the app at all. I go directly via internet. I like the funny videos, I use Bulletin board where I live for information, and for family who refuse to remember I don't even like FB anymore. Any political posts regardless of who posts are deleted , yep have deleted family before. There are plenty of other places to get your message across. I do not hit Like anymore, as it appears to create more spam mail. I don't click and would never buy directly from FB.
I'm getting to the point of quitting my participation in FB. I'm in a few different Groups, including a Navy one, and I keep getting messages from young ladies (that look like Call Girls in Vegas) about how cute I am or want to be my friend. They don't care that my Avatar on FB is the same one as on here, that is, showing my wife beside me. I have no idea how these young ladies are getting on a Navy "Group", but I'm getting very tired of it. Luckily, those young ladies haven't infiltrated the Cowboy Channel "Group" yet, that I'm a part of.
I've never joined Facebook. Do you have to ask to be able to post in a Group? Can non-members (like those ladies) browse it? Shouldn't the person who "owns" the Group be policing this stuff?
Those "ladies" are probably some skeevy guy in his mom's basement, masquerading on the internet to relieve the naive of their $$.
