CNN is set to join the ranks of publications like The New Yorker and The Wall Street Journal by introducing a subscription paywall for some of its digital content starting next month. This move comes as the media giant seeks to diversify its revenue streams amid a decline in traditional cable TV viewership.

According to The New York Times, CNN will implement a “metered” paywall in early October, limiting frequent readers to a certain number of free articles before requiring a paid subscription for continued access. While the exact subscription price remains undisclosed, sources suggest it will initially be “an inexpensive offering to gauge customer demand.”

This shift follows CNN’s earlier experiment with a “registration wall,” prompting readers to provide their email address to access certain articles. The paywall initiative was hinted at in July during a company restructuring, with CNN Chairman Mark Thompson outlining plans to establish a digital subscription business with the goal of generating “more than a billion dollars in revenue.”

This is the funniest thing I've read in a long time but it's not a joke. There's no way I will ever pay CNN a cent to read anything they publish.

    Will you?

I understand wanting to get paid for the content they generate, but their ratings are so low that I cannot imagine it will bring in much money. Not from me certainly.

With so many of us getting our news on-line rather than buying a newspaper or watching tv, I suppose it's reasonable for them to want to charge. However, their web-sites are flooded with ads. so they seem to be generating enough money as it is.

That is what I was thinking. Look more money I will save!
If they actually told the truth maybe they could use commercials and ads as they used to. They would have more readership.

Nope, not me, wouldn't pay them a wooden nickel, and I do think it's funny as well because to me it means, they are losing "viewers/readers". Sad part is some folks don't know there are better sources and they are stuck with cable, and MSM. I also remember thinking paying money, or paying more money meant I was going to get better quality, not necessarily:rolleyes:

LOL! It also follows their crash to the ground, the disgraces of Don Lemon, following his insane temper tantrums and offensive statements about the "news," and constant allegations of misogyny.

    Good question.

There is so much news available on the Internet that doesn't have the corporate label on it. It just takes a little more effort to access it.

As it turns out, that question appeared on a YouGov poll. They included a section asking me to tell them what the poll was about, something they often do to ensure that respondents are actually paying attention. I replied that it was about the Democrat Party's decision to charge for access to its propaganda on cnn.com.
