It's a huge company, so no one customer matters. Even if we were able to exert any pressure, they could reasonably deny that we were a client since I had signed up with a company that no longer exists. My payments continue to be processed, but they are based on the rate I initially signed up for, given that I don't have an account with them.

Customer No Service is often the name of the game today--often without even a human to talk to.

well no wonder they ignore you. um what would it take to correct that ? Seriously Ken , we must keep this Forum going. Hefty donations?
Negotiate with them on price and you becoming a client? Just saying maybe there are other options.

The issue is if a business will not do the job they agreed to do when they cash your check, there's nothing you can do to force them to perform. Trying to throw money at them is paying blackmail...it will never be enough.

What is the possibility of having both forums, @Ken Anderson ? If you start a new one and still leave this one up for now, then we could all migrate to the new forum, and once things are resolved with the server people for this forum and you have control of the content, we can either just close the new forum, or you can move the content there if the new forum has more efficient servers ?

This is a frustrating problem, and has been occurring intermittently for the last couple of years, since the server was sold to the new owners. I dread the thought of losing all the content from here, just like we all do; but the other side if that is that it does not do us much good if we can’t even read the forum or post on it anymore.

So, if we temporarily had two forums, then we could use the new one, and still be able to see the old one while we are putting content into the new one. All the game threads would have to be started over (as an example), so being able to look back to this forum and see which games are on here, would be helpful.

Most of us would be happy to donate to the cost of setting up a new forum, I think, because people have posted asking you if that would help out.

    @Ken Anderson

Another thought is that I'm on that huge forum with I believe nearly 20,000 members. I could float a question to see if anyone has knowledge of (or contacts with) the current host and who might be able to get us some help. The message might be something like:

"I am on another forum that is hosted by ChicagoVPS (acquired by ColoCrossing but kept separate) and am looking for someone who may have contacts there. We ended up with ChicagoVPS through a series of prior hosting service acquisitions, and have had extended down times and significant performance issues off & on for the past several years with minimal response and zero follow-through from ChicagoVPS/ColoCrossing. Our account credentials changed so we are unable to log in to do maintenance, forum upgrades, or even migrate to another host.

Over the past several years (yes, years) our site admin has occasionally had phone calls with (and received emails from) Customer Service who says the site is scheduled to be moved to another server, but then it never happens. And we still do not have our login credentials, even after speaking with an Account Exec, who then kind of disappears. ChicagoVPS does cash our checks.

So I'm looking for contact info for someone who can provide us with our account credentials and address the performance issues.
PM me if you'd rather discuss in private."

What do you think? Or create your own message and I'll post it over there.

When this happened last year, our forum was completely down, and we had to message through the SeniorsOnly facebook page.
I looked back to those messages and now have the website that I was messaging to last time. It is different than the Cloudzy place (which also advertises chicagoVPS hosting), so today, I messaged them again.
Here is their website and the link should go to the contact us page, but if not, it is just chicagovps.net, and then click the link for contact us.

I could log in thru my pw manager fine, but not on my own. Sigh, let's face it , not going to change, otherwise would have been taken care of. I refuse to start over in another forum- so will just log in and use when possible.

If you're saying that you can log in when your system populates the PW Field, but cannot log in whey you manually populate the PW Field, you might want to make certain you're manually typing the correct PW.

One way to test this would be to type your PW in a Word document or some other application, then copy/paste it into the PW Field. If this logs you in successfully, then you may have fat-fingered your PW where entering it manually. Or perhaps the forum might have had an issue in the moment you manually entered the PW but not in the moment you used your PW Manager.

From the forum's perspective (or from any website's perspective), there's no difference between having the PW field populated by a Manager, by Pasting, or by direct-typing.

I was telling Yvonne yesterday that when Senior’s Playground was closing down and @Ken Anderson decided to start his own Senior’s forum, little did he even think that he’d need “a bigger boat”, and then a bigger boat and now a bigger bigger boat.
Note: I actually said “more servers” but bigger boat seems so much more appropriate and more analytically synonymous with the latest turn of events.

It’s been a lot of years so I’m sure we’ll weather it out and things will get better.

I've noticed both yesterday and today, that it's been almost normal, with very few glitches. I was wondering if anyone else notices this on weekends? I didn't pay much attention last weekend, so I'll just see how mine goes. Seems the weekend would be busier, cramming the servers, but maybe not ;) Also, I only slightly remember "Senior Playground" and don't know if I was ever on it.

There isn't thing number one that I can do about this beyond what I have been doing. They are now telling me that they will get started on it at 10 am tomorrow, which is the first time I have gotten a specific date and time, but by no means the only time I have gotten a promise. So, if it appears to be down completely sometime tomorrow or the next day, that might be a good thing.
