It's supposed to get down into the upper 30s for 2 days. That is close to the record low (35F) for October 16th here. Point is you aren't supposed to lay blocks if it gets below 40 degrees F for 7 days. Promise not to mention this project again until it's all done, unless a catastrophe happens.
No. Only the nighttime lows will be in the 30s for 2 days here. Daytime highs in the 60s and 70s. I should have said, you are not supposed to lay blocks or bricks unless the temps will never drop below 40 degrees for 7 days in a row following. I'm ready to move on to something else. Guess I could always vacuum or dust or wash windows for a day.
Weather is such a dictator. We had no rain for weeks and I kept saying, I should stain the decks for winter. Now we have cold and rain and I only have two days in the foreseeable future that I can do it now
Love your porch, @Joe Riley. The floor turned out beautifully. I like the old-style door and window with the transoms above, and the side lights beside the door. I wish I had a door like that. Maybe I could knock out between the studs on either side of my door, and above it, and put in glass blocks. Ha! I see you are ready for Halloween. Do you decorate for every season?
We decorate for the Season, as a rule. We do not do Halloween as such...the pumpkin, and black cat are on a pillow. The Owl is a vase and the Crow is a permanent decoration in our cabin room. We had a fairly new Diamond porch swing, that we gave to our grand daughter a few years back. The porch was originally closed in on the ends (the lower half, vertical tongue and groove, with glass panes above). Having the floor replaced has given it new life.
I think I am a spoiled brat. I was staining the deck and hubby's football game went south so he came out and asked if I needed a break. I said I was fine but he just hung there. He does so few things in his dotage. So I said, yes, I could actually use a break. He could not get the plastic ring off the new can of paint. They put them one for shipping. I never met one so stubborn. I tried my Swiss army knife, a pry bar. He got a screwdriver and hammer. I was pretty sure my old favorite tool--a butter knife-- would not work. So I got an old steak knife we don't use and cut the ring off with that. The can is a metal that is almost as thin as aluminum foil. Anyway, I got him some paper towels, a plastic bag and laid down some newspaper just inside the door and let him have at it. He finished the job for me. But I wanna do everything myself. I don't like help.
@Mary Stetler: I'm glad there was a break in the rain and you got your deck stained. I understand about not wanting help at the time, but sometimes one is thankful after a job gets done and you can move on to something else.
