If walmart delivers the groceries, then there is a $35 minimum, plus a 3 hour or more wate. If you have 1 hour delivery, it is $10, 2 hour is $5, and over that is free. If they ship an item, then there is not a shipping charge for things that are shipped. Oddly,.some of the tings that they designate as shipped are sent with a runner from another store, and some are actually shipped with FedEx. Some groceries will be shipped, like the McCafe coffee, and a jar of green olives. The coffee will come by runner, and the olives several days later by FedEx.
I previously mentioned that my Walmart will substitute non-grocery items without notification. I ordered some emergency nightlights because they did not have as many as I wanted on the shelf, so I figured I'd not deplete their store inventory and ordered all of them online, thinking they would ship from a warehouse. Later that evening I got a hand-delivered package from the store. Two of the lights were the ones I ordered, and there were several that were a different brand/model. No price adjustment was made to my credit card. I took them back to the store and was told that if you order something that is sold in the store, they will process the order in the store and grab the nearest-fit to what you ordered. I can see logistical reasons for doing this (inability to manage backorders for store-delivered stuff and not wanting to make multiple deliveries), but it's not good customer service.
Today I was met with a note from USPS saying a package was requiring $12.45 and they would try to deliver tomorrow. research showed it was from amazon. I had made and order over $35 (I don't use prime) so it was free shipping but items were shipped in separate packages. No contact info at my order site so I went to a search engine. Chatted to get the money returned as they wanted me to pay up front. I made sure to stipulate that it be returned on the same card it was charged to. Chattie said she would make a note of that. I copied and pasted it into my email because they keep trying to put charges on my amazon charge card which I am mad at for other reasons. This was a case of 12 shop towels which I could pick up for $12.45 less at my feed store.
Just a word of warning about McDonalds! Most older people probably don't eat there but just in case. McDonalds is having a deadly e-coli outbreak on some states. Colorado seems to be hardest hit with a death already but other states are affected too. They have taken the quarter pounder off the menu since some of those who are sick are saying that's what they had. They think it is the onions they've been putting on the deluxe version but not sure yet. States: Colorado, Kansas, Utah, Wyoming, and portions of Idaho, Iowa, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, and Oklahoma https://www.cdc.gov/ecoli/outbreaks/e-coli-O157.html Ok, here's the rant part of this post. It seems to me that we've had a lot of food poisoning outbreaks this year. There was just a huge one involving lunch meats and cheeses. What is going on?
They are trying to get us to eat bugs? Some pork and chicken companies have been bought by the Chinese. Weren't Tyson and Smithfield?
Smithfield certainly was bought by the Chinese--reportedly the largest purchase of a company by a foreign entity in the history of the U.S. (probably also the world since most if not all other countries wouldn't allow this). I am not sure about Tyson, but Tyson is certainly a big advocate for eating bugs. It is reported that there are crickets in all ground chicken products form Tyson.
Jake got food poisoning about 25 years ago, so we seldom eat out. Of course, we seldom go anywhere, sometimes we order chicken strips and fries if hungry when out, But nothing anyone will be touching. We always bring water when we go someplace, now and then a sprite to split. I always have cups, paper plates in my van. if going on a trip I always prepare food to take. We don't ever have to stop since my van gets 500 miles to a tank of high test and has a potty, bed, table and chairs. We don't go to Texas so furthest trip is only 400 miles. We refill to go home.
Every time I shop at Tractor Supply I get an invitation to take a survey. Towards the end there are 5 questions after asking age/gender/race/income are an abbreviated Myers/Briggs test: Which words or phrases best describes yourself? -Easygoing -Independent -Creative -Organized -Strong willed -Practical -Innovative -Introverted -Kind -Logical THEN they ask how many people were in line ahead of me. Maybe they are trying to figure out if I'm gonna hurt someone if I have to wait too long. I hope this is not in my Permanent Record. It's probably right next to "Eats paste."
I have a suspicious mind, or at least it's been on Red alert lately, but seems interesting the Trump just did an appearance, in the kitchen of a MacDonalds. I know there have been plenty of e-coli reports over the years, but the timing on this one, and that it's in Colorado is just either coincidence, or not Probably yes, a coincidence, but I just don't put anything passed the nuts in this country anymore, including, as we know, eliminating people, companies, and whatever else they have to do to derail this election.
I have seen all sorts of people saying basically the same thing about the McDonalds and the sudden ecoli outbreak right after Trump was there, @Denise Evans , and i completely agree that this was some kind of a setup. For one thing, the only thing that was making people sick was one kind of burger (Big Mac ?), and not any of the other sandwiches. If it were beef, then other burgers would have used the same meat, if a condiment like mayo or pickles, then other sandwiches would have had that also, so the story does not seem right. In the days right after Trump worked at the McDonalds, sewspapers like the New York Times reposted that that restaurant had had a low health report, and the next thing, they were reporting about the ecoli breakout in several McDonald’s. Bobby said McDonalds uses their own hamburger meat, so it seems like the outbreak would have hit a lot of places and not just the few in Colorado. Then, we never hear anything more about it, after the one day of it being in all the news, so i think it was somehow set up to make MD look bad.
Now, what I came to this thread to actually talk about I don't like the sound of what happened to you @John Brunner with non-grocery item being substituted at Walmart. I was considering them, or Kroger (Freddies) to deliver to me when the weather is to bad for me to feel safe going out in it. Or, if I happen to get to sick to go anywhere. I'm sure Freddies, has issues on deliveries as well, especially since it's hard to get good, consciences, good work ethic folks to hire these days. Why the richest companies don't pay a living wage is a sin if you ask me I digress, what's new, lol! Ok, looking at the good out-weight the bad points, has anyone a fave grocery store and maybe the lowest prices for delivery, that you have found? I know it may be different here, but we do have a good variety of stores to choose from here in my new city
We do use the Walmart+ delivery, @Denise Evans . It is not perfect, but it works for us. We don’t need immediate delivery, so ordering at nite for delivery the next day works, or even ordering in the mrong for afternoon delivery is good. As long as it is at least 3 hours later, after ordering, the delivery is free. The substitution part is an issue for me, but that is because they do NOT make substitutions for groceries , at least here at our Walmarts. If I order one brand of WW bread, and they are out of that brand, Walmart won’t send me a different brand of bread, so I end up with no bread at all. What I have to do to avoid this, is order two different brands of bread, hoping that at least one of the brands is in stock. I know they have a lot of brands of bread, and even whole wheat bread, so sending a substitute would at least earn them money, as opposed to sending me no bread at all and refunding the cost of the bread. Also, Walmart works with my medicare advantage Healthy Benefits card, and most other grocery stores do not accept it. Walmart also has the Walmart+ Assist program for low income, which is half the regular price, so under $50 for the whole year of unlimited deliveries, plus free shipping for almost everything that needs to be shipped.
Trump has limited experience at McDonalds. He only did french fries. Ecoli does not do well in hot oil.
Excellent info Yvonne and thank you. I don't ever want substitutions because I am too picky (mostly careful) what I buy because of my T2 Plus, I have an "upcoming" coverage as of Jan. 1, with a new Advantage plan as you know, and I will look into the "assist" membership. I get a "healthy benefits" which helps me get the healthy foods I choose to eat. Hope RFK will keep that in place since I think it's hardest for our Seniors to cook for ourselves, let alone buy proper foods
