In the Trump threads, the election threads, and elsewhere, we are talking about what we would like to see changed, so I thought I'd start a thread for that since these may include things that were not part of Trump's agenda.

Yes, I know that the Heritage Foundation has published an agenda, but I haven't read it. Since this is a discussion forum, I am more interested in what you would like to see.

I would like to see standard election rules that would be applied throughout the nation. Although I am inclined to lean towards state's rights in most issues, federal elections affect all of us, regardless of which state we live in.

I don't expect it to happen, but I'd like a national voter ID requirement. States that oppose requiring identification are clearly interested in retaining the right to allow cheating in their elections. Yet, these votes count toward who is elected to federal offices, affecting all of us. States that insist on allowing illegal ballots shouldn't be allowed to determine who represents us on a federal level.

I'd like to see severe restrictions on any votes cast outside of those cast at the polls on election day. People in the military or working overseas should not be required to return home to cast a vote. Still, there should be definable restrictions on ballots not cast at the voting place on the designated election day. We did this before and should go back to it.

We should abolish dual citizenship. If you can't decide whether you want to be a citizen of the United States, you shouldn't vote in our elections.

The 26th Amendment established the voter age at 18 nationwide, so we can establish nationwide election laws.

Ranked-choice voting should be abolished nationwide. As far as I know, only Maine and Alaska currently use that system. However, out-of-state interests heavily promoted it, and it was passed in states with low populations, so I'm sure it will crop up elsewhere. Ranked-choice voting takes the counting of the votes out of the hands of local election places, allowing state bureaucrats to work their magic in a back room at the state capital after all the poll watchers have gone home. It does more than that, too, but none is good. When it was first passed in Maine, it was supposed to be used only in local and state elections, but this year, it was also used for national offices.

I can understand the need for political parties because like-minded people should be able to establish organizations through which to consolidate their interests in a common candidate. However, political parties should have no governmental or electoral status whatsoever. They should finance their own primaries, carrying them out however they wish, and candidates should not have party affiliations noted on the ballots. I belong to a club known as the Fin & Feather Club, which is primarily for hunters and fishermen. If the Fin & Feather Club wants to endorse a candidate, we can do so, and political parties shouldn't have any more of an official status than that.

That's enough for now. This thread should not be restricted to elections or election laws; that just happens to be on my mind right now.

I agree with you on your points @Ken Anderson. The age 18 voting required a Constitutional amendment, so too much meddling with that might require another amendment. Since so many states are now Red, amendments might actually be easier to pass now since they are not dependent on the popular vote. Ranked Choice voting may go away in Alaska. It was on the recent ballot, and repealing it is still ahead, but we were hit with millions of dollars of ads persuading people to vote to keep it from places as far away as Switzerland. Makes you wonder who in Switzerland cares about American election choices. Most of the funding was dark money from Houston, Chicago, Denver, and Atlanta. Murkowski needs it to stay in the Senate and she will be up for election in two years, so her supporters from around the nation and world want to be able to get a person to win the election who gets only a minority of votes and doesn't need to stand for a primary.

I suspect we could get photo ID required for national elections by withholding Federal funding to states who don't adopt it, just as Reagan got the drinking age placed at 21.

Far as voting is concerned, I think you pretty much covered it far as I'm concerned. Whatever next comes up, may be different.

I would like to see our borders closed up tight, combined with a policy of removing illegals, beginning with those who have committed crimes, followed by those who have no means of independent support. While I wouldn't give any category of illegal immigrants blanket amnesty, we can't remove them all at once, and we may be able to absorb those who can contribute to our society beyond voting Democrat. I'm not saying we should, but that we might have to.

Once we've removed the criminal element and those who drain our system, we could remove others as we encounter them, such as when they commit crimes in this country, apply for welfare programs, or drive too slowly. As it is, we're spending far more on each illegal immigrant than we are on elderly American citizens who have paid into the system.

Until we have removed a large percentage of those who have already come into the country illegally, we should sharply reduce the number of immigrants who are admitted into the country, not to be mean, but because we can't afford to absorb any more people. Rather than considering what we can do for them, we need to start considering what they can do for us.

There are no jobs that American citizens won't do for the right price. Illegal immigrants don't fill jobs that no one else wants; they keep the wages down.

We almost completely shut down immigration the early part of the 20th century because we wanted to give the immigrants from the latter part of the 19th century and the very early 20th century time to integrate into society. Teddy Kennedy pushed through a bill to open our borders more in the 1960s, in part because he thought, as they do now, that it would provide more voters for the Democrat party. Things were stable for a while, then began to get out of control in the 1970s and that prompted the Reagan amnesty which snowballed because the Democrats, who controlled both houses of Congress, did not fulfill their part of the bargain to close the border. Biden's open invitation to illegals has led to our current catastrophe.

I want the Federal Department of Education gone. Control of education is how nations get undermined. Besides, the Federal DOE is unconstitutional. We did without it for the first 200 years of this nation.

He brought in outside consultants who concluded that the thing was horribly bloated before it even did anything (since Carter had just created it), and he could not even get support to right-size it. It is the biggest tool in the American Communists' bag.

Getting rid of it will literally take an act of Congress.

I agree not much I can add to this, except no welfare at all to any non-citizen.

Don they always lie like hell till they get in office. Now they are not far from replacing Americans, their population has grown 155% since 2020 and that's just Hispanics Latinos not counting the rest of the world illegals.

Tony, I totally agree with this. Or if they don't like what the flag represents, they can leave. The flag unlike many politicians represents the nation, has nothing to do with the policy's leaders put out.

I get the sentiment, but in addition to the Free Speech implications, not only do I like these idiots letting us know who they are, there are other more violent ways they might act out if we start prohibiting the symbolic stuff.

Regarding buildings: I think all graffiti on buildings should be illegal, unless granted permission by the owner.
