On the immigration thing, a bit of good news. https://redstate.com/streiff/2024/1...-illegal-last-minute-amnesty-program-n2181709

A federal judge has struck down a Biden administration program for illegal aliens who are married to US citizens. In a three-paragraph decision, Federal District Judge for the Eastern District of Texas J. Campbell Barker (a Trump appointee, and yes, that does make a difference) ruled that the program the administration rolled out in June 2024 "lack statuary authority under 8 U. S. C. § 11821(d)(5)(A) itself (as opposed to under other provisions modifying or supplementing that authority) to grant parole "in place" to aliens" under the benign-sounding "Keeping Families Together" program.

I love to see the election period be cut from what two years to 6 mos, tops! Get it over with. Many other countries do not take so long.
Next would be unnecessary name calling, cursing, not sticking with the questions asked.
One debate, and abide by the rules. Probably could come up with more, but this will do for now.

Ok I got it now, Beth aka Queen of SOC, now I know how I can get the opposite reactions to article's I basically agree or disagree with.
I'll go under cover by asking you to put them up for me.. You know and I know if I had of put this article up, it would've either been racist or negative to others. Which is life in general and I like you a lot too so no offence. ;) Now people will wonder if you fell for it, so guess thats a bad idea. I will not be asking so no worry:p.

There's nothing to debate. The judge made his ruling on another action by the Biden administration overstepping their authority.

"Biden’s DHS wrongfully asserted it has “unfettered discretion” into who can enter our nation without consulting Congress. Their new program would have allowed more than 1.3 million illegal immigrants already in the states to apply for permanent residency. In the complaint, the attorneys general reminded the defendants that Congress has not authorized said mass amnesty to illegal aliens."

Beth, then why are you putting it up for discussion?
I didn't offend you with my post about you being queen, sure wasn't my intention.

Well, actually you did offend me so maybe you should scroll on by my posts.

I posted the blurb about Biden's immigration policy being struck down because it was in the news yesterday and I thought people might be interested. If you are not then just ignore it.

I think I heard Musk say that would be his first target--a department of the government that cost a lot but produced no goods or service for the people and educated no one.

Well then, I'll just take what's left of my marbles for a break from posting for a while. The weather is supposed to cool down this week and I can go back to the woods and vines.
Jake stays off these kinds of threads because he doesn't like to get into politics or other controversial debates. Which is actually wise since like he says there is nothing, we can do about it anyway.

What I would like to see is term limits for congress, and probably other government positions. There is no reason we should have these doddering old people who seem senile , out there in DC and running this country. I know that they manage to get re-elected over and over again (probably fraudulently, at least on blue states), but we need to be able to have new people just like happens with the presidential elections.

I would add age limits as well. And same for the president.

Term limits were considered by the Founders but rejected, as they felt the electorate would be smart enough to kick those in Congress who didn't properly do their job to the curb. They also felt no bad laws would be passed since the Congress people would have to live under those laws. We have proven them wrong on both issues. We are too stupid to reject senior congressional folks out and Congress passed laws exempting themselves from many of the laws they impose on us. Do you think Social Security and Medicare would be what they are if members of Congress had to live with them? Perhaps we need a Constitutional amendment covering that.
