Both Honda and Toyota have made statements that BEVs are still a way off. Both have entries carrying their nameplates, but the entire cars are outsourced to other makers. Both are sticking with ICVs and HEVs for now, though Toyota does carry at least one PHEV (RAV4 Prime). Toyota has a lot of irons in the fire though including some kind of "synfuel" burning ICE, some new battery technology, etc. Mazda often "does its own thing." As far as I can tell, like GM, they license the hybrid technologies developed by Toyota. It all gets murky and partners change like some Elephants' Square Dance as everyone jockeys the mazes of regulations in their markets.
Some definitions... ICE/ICV Internal Combustion Engine/Vehicle. A 100% gas/diesel engine. EV/BEV Battery Electric Vehicle. 100% battery only, recharged via an outlet at home or a charging station. HEV Hybrid Electric Vehicle. Combination ICE and EV. The batteries are charged by both the gas motor and regenerative braking. They cannot be plugged in to charge the batteries. PHEV Plug-in HEV. Same as an HEV, but can be plugged in to charge the batteries. EREV Extended Range Electric Vehicle. Designed to run entirely on the electric motor, but have a gas generator that can provide electricity to the batteries and electric motor when needed to extend the overall range. FCEV Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle. EVs using fuel cells that implement a hydrogen/oxygen chemical reaction system rather than use regular batteries. They have to be refueled at hydrogen charging stations. Lifewire article
Discontinuing the cars may be the cause of thefts on the coasts. I read about large quantities of cars being stolen and shipped mostly to west Africa. I though, to myself, Wellll at least my old moldy Toyota Matrix is safe. But what do I see on the list is my old moldy Matix! they want the parts which they will need after they are no longer made. I guess I will have to bring it in and chain it to my big JD tractor. Not sure why but Dave's old moldy Volvo was not on the list.
Our autos left the lot list already, both are well above 30 years old, so thank goodness nobody wants them,
