If this is the same man about 20 years ago, I tried lessons and it was easy, but of course I didn't finish, maybe this will help you and you'll get further.
I use to have several. But now. Hobbies at this time of my life? I don't think I have too many anymore. I like to read, sew a little, gaze out the window and "think" about taking a walk. I suppose cooking and baking could be considered a hobby of mine too, or maybe just eating is.
I learned how to read music on the piano with a little carboard chart like this that sits behind the keys. Start with a piece of sheet music for a simple song in the key of C (no sharps or flats). Move on from there later.
I watched a little of the video. The first instruction he gives, he mis-identifies the keys. Right-to-left he says "C, G and C." It's actually "C, G and E." He doesn't correct himself.
I played trumpet for a number of years (not very well.) I know the keys on a piano and can plunk out a tune, and I can play chords. But I cannot really "read" piano music other than the single-note melody line. And I can't read bass clef at all. It's interesting that the guy did not review his lesson and fix it.
We all played an instrument in my family. I had 5 brothers and sisters. -The 2 older sisters played flute and clarinet and took piano lessons from the cat lady who lived up the block. I still remember Miss Detbenner, and that was 65 years ago. When I was 6-7 years old, my sister played in a recital at Wabash College, as I sang in my prepubescent soprano voice. (Cherry Tree.) -The older brother played trombone and made a career out of it in The Army Band. (At one point he wanted to switch to guitar, but our father would not let him do it.) He also played Herald Trumpet (the long ceremonial horn with the flag hanging from it) for foreign dignitaries and special political events. He had pics of himself with Nixon, Reagan, Hubert Humphrey, etc. -I played trumpet from 4th grade through high school. As an adult I helped a friend build a recording studio in his basement, and then helped him record & mix tunes. I would have loved to have done that for a living. -The next younger brother played trombone and was a virtuoso. He played side gigs when he was in high school and when big bands were still popular. At 16 years old, he was 1st Chair above adult men in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. He was a mechanic and owned his own shop, and rarely played after that. -The youngest brother played trumpet through high school.
Fantastic, I like this story John, I grew up listening to mama play piano and always wanted her to teach me but since I cut off my index finger on brother's baby bottle, she said it would be too much a challenge. Jake's father and his 4 brothers played guitar, Jakes dad played steel guitar, others piano, drums. All of them sang. One of them has a great voice, sounds like Elvis singing Dixie, got a standing ovation at one event.
When I'm on my keyboard I usually play by ear very short parts of songs that I know with my right hand. My left hand has a mind of its own. lol
Well at least your still participating. I think it is good to keep at it since you seem to enjoy doing so.
