Hopefully the health initiative by Kennedy and the Trump administration will get things going in a better direction. Removing harmful food additives appears to be one of their first goals. As for the fatties in commercials; "they" are trying to make their product more relatable. Let's face it, Americans are fat. Personally I'd rather see attractive people on TV, plus I think drug commercials should not be allowed in the first place.
At one time Prescription drug ads weren’t legal so I looked it up and it was, of course, the FDA that legalized televised ads in 1997. And….just as a tidbit of info, the United States and New Zealand are the only two countries in the world that allow prescription drug ads over the airwaves.
I believe Clinton pushed to allow drug commercials on the public airwaves. Perhaps Trump will reverse it. It would be against a lot of money pushing back though, since those commercials and the people who fall for them finance the current goings-on by Big Pharma. Glad that the political lies (ads) have largely stopped and the Medicare Advantage Plans have died out too.
