I have been told t his forever, and don't eat many but sure do like them, on the ripe side. It's said to not constipate, eat a more ripe banana///but lately I may be eating too many and feel too bulky you know where....So I'm going to back off for a while... I know bananas are discussed around here a lot......but on the constipation I don't know....I know one of our members eats a lot, maybe it's John So my latest on this lovely fruit.
Without going into detail, ever since I went through radiation therapy for prostate cancer several years ago, I have tended toward loose stools. Every few months, I have to take an Imodium every day for a week, but there is no fruit that I eat more than bananas. I don't buy them every day, but I will usually eat a whole bunch of bananas within an hour of bringing them home. I think they are the perfect fruit; they are relatively cheap, easy to get to, easy to eat, they taste great, and they contain a bunch of stuff that's good for me. However, they don't seem to do a thing as far as my stools are concerned.
I don't care for really ripe bananas. Yellow peels are fine but once they start getting black spots, it's time for the compost pile. I won't eat the ones that are entirely green, but that's just a matter of waiting a day or two.
No, but I once read that people with a latex allergy are also allergic to banana peels...but they can eat the fruit just fine.
All my life, I have cut the stem part way off and peeled it down. This requires a knife or a sharp fingernail. Now I find out that uppity pre-teens and monkeys are smarter than I was.
