I tried to watch, but they did not provide evidence of exactly what they were responding to in their rant. The comments were of no substance, either. General consensus is that Trump is trolling. I just wonder what the end-game is.
The thing is, the democrats want to change whatever will benefit them at the time. They don't consider future ramifications of their nonsense... just like packing the Supreme Court or whatever. While they have control that works great but then when the republicans have the majority they get really quiet about those important changes.
Amazon is planning a $1 million donation to president-elect Donald Trump’s inaugural fund, as founder Jeff Bezos and other tech leaders shore up ties with the incoming administration. The Wall Street Journal reports that the donation is being prepared as Jeff Bezos, Amazon’s executive chairman, is slated to visit Donald Trump next week at his private Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida, according to people familiar with the matter. Bezos and the company decided on the contribution earlier this week and communicated it to Trump’s team.
Many years ago, before he became a solid Democrat, Jeff Bezos fancied himself as a libertarian. When he bought the Washington Post, many hoped that the Post would cover the news from a more libertarian perspective. Instead, he went far left. Perhaps he was simply making nice with whoever was in power then, as he is now.
It may be that the staff were all left wingers and he didn't have the courage to fire everyone as Musk did at Twitter/X
How can they not see themselves? Party of acceptance and joy. They fight so hard for what? I am against everything too but don't need an upper hand.
We have no choice but Trump, far as things go, he is our only hope. Personally, I don't trust any of them that much, especially, not a democrat.
Yeh, I read that he got $7 million from them donated to charity. There's another $1 million in there, but I don't know who the recipient is. He also got a verbal apology from one of the execs. People are questioning Stephanopoulos' credentials, but that news is so old it's decomposed by now.
It looks like that longshoreman's strike ain't gonna happen after all. Longshoreman's Union VP Has a Message About Trump That Will Likely Sicken Dems Daily Caller Dec. 16, 2024 Trump met with leaders of the Longshoreman’s Association. Its vice president, Dennis Daggett, posted on Facebook that the meeting was nothing short of historic in his mind. The guy was gushing over Trump's support for "the working class." Here is Daggett's Facebook post to the union members: Dear Brothers and Sisters, I had the honor of meeting with President-elect Donald Trump yesterday, and I want to share an experience I never imagined in my wildest dreams. Throughout my career, I’ve never seen a politician—let alone the President of the United States—truly understand the importance of the work our members do every single day. But yesterday, President-elect Trump not only demonstrated that understanding but also showed the utmost respect for the hard work, sacrifices, and dedication of our membership. He was not just attentive to our concerns; he was receptive and genuinely engaged in a discussion about the existential threat automation poses—not only to the Longshore sector but to our communities and the very fabric of this great nation. It’s rare to meet a leader who truly listens, and even rarer to find one who is willing to act. Let’s put politics aside for a moment, as I know it can be challenging for some to grasp. But I witnessed something extraordinary firsthand—this man truly wants to fight for America and its working class. In over 25 years of working in Washington, I have never seen a Republican take up the mantle for working-class people. President-elect Trump proved me wrong yesterday. He didn’t just tell us in private that he supports workers—he made it clear to the whole world. As we move forward, let us focus on the opportunities ahead. I will continue to fight for your jobs, our communities, and the future of the working class in this country. In solidarity, Dennis A. Daggett Executive Vice President International Longshoremen’s Association
The Longshoreman's threatened strike was over automation taking over their jobs, but if automation there and elsewhere eliminates so many jobs and the country's population continues to rise, there is going to be a catastrophic collision of idle people and a rising population.
Between automation taking over manufacturing and labor jobs and AI taking over so much of everything left over, people will soon be unnecessary, which may be the goal. But what do you do? Requiring companies to compete in a global market with old technology or requiring them to hire people who aren't needed doesn't sound like a realistic plan. That could be a topic for a separate thread, though.
It seems to be No-Win regardless of what is done. The only nations (or regions) that might remain unaffected are those who have perpetually been 3rd world, or nations like Japan who do not allow their economy to lead them by the nose. Japan's population rises and falls, without immigration being used to prop up GDP. Their culture is the priority, while entire generations may suffer (willingly or not.) So the piper shall always get paid. Westerners prefer to live in the moment and kick cans down the road. Since we are controlled by GDP (it's become a goal rather than a measure), the landing is gonna be rough. It's interesting that automation might displace factory labor, but now AI has may become its service economy equivalent. I don't want to derail this thread, so I posted a comment in the AI thread regarding CHATGPT developing a sense of survival and disobeying developers' orders.
