This is quite a brain work. You are not a politician. But you have the heart for the human race. But thinking harder because of necessity, you will be the senator for a year. You sure are the 'candidate for the people'. They need you. They love you. You see the major problems in politics. You live in the times of power hungry from all sides. The people think that voting for you will promise them new policies of pro-human life benefits in the healthcare system for the elderly citizens, the poor and the needy. More jobs. Tighter security and defense for every person in the country from terrorists. Drug lords will be put out of business and will be locked up in maximum penitentiary forever. Unless they submit to the drug-free centers and rehab and counseling communities in the country. And pay back all the money sold with their drugs. To help clean up the mess these billion-money making drug lords. And the billions of dollars pocketed by the Big Pharmas taking advantage of the sick and the helpless. You will put a sanction on the massive production of prescription drugs, and illegalize them. And then, allocate the money on food production and raw materials. What would you like to achieve in one year if given the chance to become a senator of your country? One day... there'll be the Perfect Law and Justice for all.
I don't think I can do any better than that! I would eliminate the: EPA, ATF, Membership in the UN, Board of Education, DHS, Aw hell! I would eliminate everything except the military, including the Post Office!
more than 2000 years ago, Plato saw the inherent flaws in democracy. The reasons he had then are still valid today and applicable to any candidate voted into office. Plato rated democracy low, just above anarchy. In fact, he stated that all democracies degenerate into tyranny as a natural process because politicians are bribed and they pander to the greed of society. What is best for society will usually not get someone elected. Today is is difficult to identify with Plato's views, because generally, the basic political systems that now survive are democracy and tyranny. The aristocracies and other systems no longer exist, or are only a shadow of their former selves. Plato compared democracy and found it wanting. Unfortunately we have nothing to compare democracy to nowadays but the mass media assures us that democracy is the best system. Best for whom? Regrettably I, as your senator, am quite toothless. Anything I do to force the country to counter the disastrous economic policy will lose me the next election, because the public doesn't want to hear of fiscal responsibility. They want to borrow more and live it up. Anything I do to curb the excesses of multinational corporations will likewise lose me the next election because that is where campaign funds originate. Likewise, reforming our lunatic socialist culture where stealing from productive workers and giving to those unwilling to work is politically correct. Reversing this will lose me votes. The unwilling to work are the modern politically correct darlings. So, sorry, I can use my fat Senatorial paycheck, but there is not much I can do for the people unless, like Napoleon, I am elected emperor. Want to be my campaign manager?
My priority would be to take the "money" out of politics, put a stop to the loopholes the 1% are using to not pay taxes and to receive corporate welfare. If politics was a part time job, rather than something that gets in the way of your golfing, we can almost wipe out the greed and corruption we see everywhere now.
In our country, the senator is a powerful man in terms of influence and not of money. So what I could do is to pursue my dream of an environmental cleanup. A program to educate the public in how to keep our surroundings clean and pollution-free aside from conducting activities like tree planting and coastline clearing to inspire people to do their part. Creating a law is not that effective hence a campaign is what I would do.
Nice thoughts but maybe very naive ? In the time it took to reply to this thread/ post, the drug lords in the usa, made about ten to twenty billion dollars .... Who is able to combat that kind of power, money and influence which deceives the whole world ?
