I just re-watched 2001: A Space Odyssey for the first time since it came out. While I remembered that I didn't fully understand the movie then, I liked it, partly because you had to like it.

However, having watched it again this morning, I couldn't help but wonder what the hell I was thinking. While the effects were very good, for its time, it was one of the slowest movies that I can remember not having walked out on, I still don't know why I didn't walk out on it. I was probably on acid when I watched it in the 1960s, but I didn't have that excuse today.

I was afraid it would never end, and the last half hour was like staring into a lava lamp, and that awful classical music track made it even harder to stay awake.

I don't recommend it unless you're on drugs.

I never understood it, either. I sincerely hope somebody can explain it to me. Did they find the Creator in the end?

I liked the movie and the Strauss sound tract music.
Ironic what the movie was actually about more than anything, was Hal the AI aka, ' artificial intelligence ' control freak. Who ended up murdering most of the crew. When today it is a real threat like it was in the movie.
