I took some pictures today of a few plants we have and thought we could use a thread for this years gardening.
It's way too early to think about gardening here yet. But I can feel the earth stirring. The sap is rising in my maple tree so spring is on the way.
Way too early here of course, but I have celery planted into soil blocks and awaiting germination. Nothing else yet. Potting soil order arrives around mid-month.
I am shopping Aerogardens (and similar hydroponic systems) on Amazon; does that count as 2022 gardening start ? My mung bean sprouts were tall enough to take the lid off of the seed tray and I put them near the little Aerogarden so they can get light and turn into micro greens now. These are about 5 days old and just starting to get color. Now that the lid is off and they are getting light, they should start really greening up.
I would think so. And those are looking like they are really taking off. I have some in the freezer I need to try. I'm sure they are still good.
I'm not planning on gardening this year, if I do it'll just be a couple of pots, I did want to mention I took a rare shopping trip today to the dollar store they had seed packets 4/$1. I picked up for my grandkids some radish, carrots, and summer squash seed.
Our first end-of-frost-risk day here is Mother's Day. I don't know if I'll mess with anything this year. I've only tried once since moving here and there are so many critters it's really not worth messing with. And I don't can.
We are only 6 weeks to autumn, we’ve had a very cool summer think we’ve had 2 days over 40 c ( just over the 100f ) I planted tomatoes I’d grown from seed they did really well growth wise , produced lots of tomatoes but it didn’t seem to matter what I treated them with along with lots of valuable advise from members @Don Alaska ( I bought stuff recommended although I had to order it ) so one day I was sitting on our verandah looking at the sad tomatoes so I dragged the green bin up to the raised garden bed and filled the bin with the tomato bushes ….I’ve replaced them after testing and treating the soil with a late season tomatoes so let’s hope I have better luck this time
I have all four aerogardens filled with seeds, and some had baby plants large enough to transplant into containers, so I did that today and then replanted more seeds in the aerogarden. I have been able to harvest a few green leaves for my salads, but they really aren’t large enough for that yet. The little tomato starts that I bought at Home Depot are really growing, and I transplanted them into a larger container, and by the time they have outgrown this one, I should be able to move them outside into permanent containers. I was at the Dollar Store to get the new container and some planting soil and when I looked at the seeds, they had the most gorgeous tomato that i have ever seen ! It is called an Atomic Grape Tomato, and it has the brightest colors, so I bought some seeds and just put some in the aerogarden to sprout tonight. Here is a picture and information about these gorgeous and amazing tomatoes.
I just took these a few minutes ago. Not sure its been worth it but so far managed to save these [;ants from frost and heat Exstream's. Tomatoes so far,
We only used half the greenhouse this year, and hubby been busy working on vehicles, so it looks shabby but works.
Wish us luck, we are putting up old 10' post we took down to shade camper we sold a couple years ago to put over raised bed to string up tomatoes and put plants in raised bed. I think we should leave them in containers to acclimate or harden off but hubby is going to put them in soil now. He is usually lucky and has a green thumb so maybe they will make it.
I forgot the name but t5hese are the long red sweet peppers. They are now about 5 inches long and going from container in greenhouse to raised bed. Thy3e green pepper below is almost ready to harvest. I'm beginning to worry about hubbys mental condition.
