One of my daughters has been a school custodian in our school system nearly all her working life. She has three years to go before she can retire with full pension. Yesterday, (Thursday) they served notice on all the custodial staff that hours were being cut and if the work couldn't get done, they would all be replaced with a commercial cleaning outfit. Happy holidays. Needless to say, she is pretty upset over this. She and all the other custodians worked hard a lot of years, only to be thrown away and their jobs outsourced. She was told she could probably get hired by the commercial cleaners, but at less than half the pay. Some other area schools went that route, with a cleaning service. Those schools aren't near as clean as they once were. I guess it no longer pays to be loyal and hard working.
I can relate to what your daughter is going through. I am related to someone who worked as a para-pro in the public school system for twelve years full time with benefits. Then two years ago all the para-pros regardless of year of service were told their hours were being cut and that they would lose their benefits as a result. So, now she works without benefits including having to have separate health care plan and no vacation or sick time. It's horrible how employees are sometimes treated by companies who want to cut back. You are right hard work and dedication doesn't always pay off.
Not only my daughter, but my oldest son has me concerned too now. He's been on his job quite awhile and has lots of vacation time. It don't look very stable anywhere.
Well, look at the bright side. She was blessed to have many years of good pay, twice that of the other schools. These are hard times for the younger generation….but wait till the Donald gets in there and shakes things up. But then again, he says he won't raise the minimum wage. Why not raise it and whittle down on the other end of the scale? Because that's his end. Sigh.
Well, I always figured, if you're rich because you know how to make money, You'll get rich again no matter how much they try to punish you for it. If you're comfortable because you busted you're butt to get that way, Liberals won't give a rat's behind about you.
I do agree that the Donald will get more positive results with our economy than Obama…lol…that was an easy statement to make. Trump's ego won't allow him to fail. He may have an abrasive personality that is not presidential but he'll give it all he's got not to fail. If he fails he'll fix it. That's just what he does. How did we go from a fine Christmas present to politics? ha
