just wondering if a lot of you take Melatonin that brings on the dreams. I never took Melatonin until about 10 yrs ago so I was about 70 or so, and prior to that no sleep aids and h hardly ever dreams. I use a sleep combo with a low dose Melatonin and some B Vits that are calming, and now using a HGH homeopathic gel two times a day and my sleep is even deeper and dreams are more. ummm
I have taken melatonin for around 20 years now. I read the amazing book, The Melatonin Miracle, and that explained all of the many, many benefits that this necessary hormone has for our body, how it helps to protect us from aging, and make the other hormones work right. I started out with a really low dose (3 mg) and over the years, gradually increased my dose and now take 10 mg about a half hour before bed each night. I can’t remember if I dreamed more after i started taking it or not, because it was such a long time ago, now. I think that my dreams might be more vivid, but I am not sure. I do know that it really helps me to get a sound night’s sleep, and is a hormone that my body needs to be healthy.
Oh so you are one of the 10mger's of Melatonin. I can't imagine. I take 1/2mg to 1mg about an hour or so before the head hits the pillow but with the low dose I take a couple others from Vit B family. Learned about the low dose protocol from LifeExtension. I've done a lot of reading about short term use and although I take it for maybe 10 yrs now I take such a low dose so I'm not concerned. https://healthyliving.azcentral.com/long-term-effects-of-taking-melatonin-12176519.html
You make that sound like a criminal offense, @Joy Martin ! If your dose works for you, and my dose works for me, that is what is important in my estimation. I (for one) am exceedingly tired of getting a rude response from you all of the time, and nothing even halfway friendly. I will NOT be responding to any of your posts from now on if this is how you intend to present yourself here. I know you said that you did not come here to make friends, and it appears that you definitely do not want to be considerate in your replies, either.
I too take 10mg a night and have been doing so for quite a while with no ill effect. No matter where you learned your “protocol” I will bet I can show the exact opposite from another source. Just like BMI and several other standards by which an average person is supposed to abide by, the intake of Melatonin is an abstract item which cannot be an across the board measurement. Similar to what @Yvonne Smith wrote, what works for you is great but works for another is up to them or rather, us. Community forums are not necessarily the best place to get health care information even if the person providing said information writes that it comes from some uh....reliable source. The outstanding problem of some folks giving health tips is it’s an all or nothing I’m the expert kind of a thing, which to me is the epitome of the saying “a little bit of information is worse than none at all.” Bottom line here is that yes, I do take melatonin and yes, 10mg a night with absolutely no change in my dreams but perhaps that’s because 90% of the time I am in complete control over what I dream.
I've taken melatonin for a while and the jury's still out on whether it is working for me or not. Years ago, I was taking quinine and WOWEE! It turned my normally vivid dreams into the screaming meemies. I had to stop that.
@Yvonne Smith @Joy Martin "I (for one) am exceedingly tired of getting a rude response from you all of the time, and nothing even halfway friendly." Please explain, Yvonne, how your interpretation of her post resulted in this answer. I see no rudeness expressed, nor a lack of friendliness. I think I understand the language well enough to be in a position to say this, but perhaps I know not how to "read between the lines"? Frank
Never had need of a sleep aid luckily. I find that 500 mg a day of CBD oil. (bacon flavor because I share with my cat)) does the trick. But I do have more vivid and waking dreams depending on the dose of fear porn thrust on me by the media the previous day.
