If you are retired, do you ever take an afternoon nap? I read on a "health" website, that it can be very recommended for people who are retired and that "an afternoon nap is one of the benefits of retirement".

I'm retired and sometimes will take a short nap in a recliner either in the later AM or later afternoon. Wife can't, because she still works a full-time job. Sometimes on either Saturday or Sunday afternoon, we will take a nap for a couple of hours, especially if it's a dreary/rainy day.

Funny thing........in the past, when we've gone to Las Vegas, sometimes we would go to our hotel room around 2PM and take a nap for a couple of hours. That way, we are pretty assured that we will be able to stay up a little late (til 11PM) and do some fun things.

I work from home, so I am not retired. I do choose my hours though, so I take a reading break a couple of times a day, and that often turns into a nap.

I am still working with my office job. However, our office allows us to take after lunch naps as long as it is within the breaktime hour - from 12 noon to 1 pm. And since I have a room of my own, I can take a nap as I wish. However, it is not fulfilled because there's always work and people come and go to my room for reports or something.

Where there is no work, I usually sleep in the afternoon, not just a nap but a sleep of at least 1 hour. Last Sunday, I was feeling dead tired and I dropped on the bed after lunch. That was 1:30 pm and I woke up at 4:30 pm. That's a mighty good sleep I had in a long time. If only I could do that often, how I wish.

I don't take naps regularly but the do seem to come more and more often as I get older.

When I worked in Eritrea, I started work at 6 a.m. and finished at 1 p.m. Most people used to sleep between 2 and 4 in the afternoon, during the hottest part of the day. I tried it, but found I just couldn't get used to it and couldn't get to sleep at night. Some years later and I sometimes find myself dozing off in the afternoon when I've been reading a book.

Since I have retired, I take a nap almost every afternoon. It's one of the luxuries of being retired. :)

I live in the Dominican Republic and half the country shut down from 12 - 2 pm to take a nap. It become a little frustrating when you want to get work done. Then you just get used to it and join in.
