Amazon has just come out with a new home device. It kinds of reminds me of R2-D2, with the little robot camera eyes. It can roll around the house , follow instructions, monitor an elderly person or your dog, and check when you think there might be a suspicious person, with the 42” periscope. Astro connects with the Ring Doorbell, and it looks to me like you can check any part of your house from anywhere by using your smartphone. If the battery is low, it goes to the charger, so even if you are away on vacation, it will keep working. If you need to change the thermostat, or turn a light on or off, or just ask the robot to take a dog biscuit to the dog, it can do all of that, according to the information on Amazon. https://smile.amazon.com/Introducing-Amazon-Astro
I have absolutely no need for one, and even with no stairs, I would not get one. However, that does not stop me from thinking that it is an amazing little gadget. I can see something like this as being good for my daughter who is in the Netherlands for her job, and she could monitor her house here with something like the Astro. I watched the video and fell in love…..
Very interesting little guy! However, the cost........... It will probably take a PhD to learn how to work it. Only kidding, but. Just what will inventors come up with next??
Astro is loyal to his maker, not to his owner. I'm not sure I'd invite any of that stuff into my home.
Wow I can barley keep up with all the new tech stuff. Still working with my new phone that has more crap on it than any person should ever have to have.
I just bought my first iPhone, and since I was switching over from years of having an Android, I've been watching tutorials for it. I've learned to do more on this new phone than I ever did over 15+ years of Droid ownership just because I was seeking out some basic info to facilitate the transition...and I've still not scratched the surface. It is insane, isn't it? These are computers that happen to make phone calls as some inconvenient necessity.
It's clever and would be amusing when it was new, but I don't know if that would be the case when the new wore off. It would be interesting to see how household pets would react to it. Some don't like their space invaded.
