My preferred supermarket now has an autonomous, ambulatory robot called "Marty." It's programmed to look for spills and trash. The 'bot beeps and pulses light as it approaches. When I first encountered it, I didn't know what it was or what was going on; I looked to see if someone was pushing it or inside it, quickly dismissing both possibilities. "Marty" is hardly an android, and they've added the big, googly eyes so as not to give a Darth Vader vibe. Walmart is also introducing robotic floor-washing devices. Give robots ten years, we'll be seeing a lot more of them with increasing sophistication, and it's hard to tell what they'll be doing!
Wow - that's a tall fella ! I think we will have robot carers in the future, which I like the sound of - I'd like one now ! You would think Marty would get in the way of shoppers though …...
We used to have one of those Roomba floor cleaners, and I really liked it. It did get stuck in unhandy places where it was hard to reach underneath and get it back out; but as long as I only used it when we were right there to watch where Roomba went, and shut the doors where we didnt’ want it to go, it did a great job of vacuuming, and could go into places that my regular vacuum could not fit. With a name like Marty, I am guessing that he works at the Walmart grocery store ?
Yes robots will take over most jobs in all of retail. Read an article several weeks ago stating many jobs will be replaced by robots..librarians , some lawyer jobs etc etc.Wonder if they will tote guns also to keep peace on the ares they work . They will replace night watchman in the future I read
