I like all humor, but this is my all-time favorite comedian with a southern style, I've read all 21 of his books.
Some of his skits seem simple compared to today’s humor but to me, there was none more versatile and funnier than Red Skelton. Still, through all the humor and nonsense his show brought to the tv and movie screen, his more serious and patriotic side was revealed the night he gave his rendition of the Pledge of Allegiance. I have posted the video a couple of times already but if anyone hasn’t seen it just YouTube it and enjoy.
I don't know any of the new ones. As a stand-up comedian? Tough because I never watched that many. Bill Cosby and Jerry Seinfeld had some good routines when they first started out. On a TV series, I always liked Tim Conway and Julia Louis-Dreyfus As a team, The Smothers Brothers
“Whispering” Bill Anderson recorded it as I recall but the story itself goes way back to WWII and possibly before. Red Skelton may have given a rendition of it and if he did it would have been fantastic but I don’t remember seeing it.
