I have always received my Social Security retirement payment (SSA) on the first day of every month. This month, however, August, 2023, my payment has not arrived in my bank (via direct deposit). Does anyone have any idea why ? Thank you/
It’s been early for the last year or so. Got it yesterday. Chances are, the bank has your money but hasn’t pushed the button.
I thought SS deposits were made every Wednesday, with each person getting their money on the Wednesday that most closely falls near their birth date. So if you were born the first week of your birth month, you always get your check the first Wednesday. If you were born the second week of your birth month, you always get your check the second Wednesday, etc. That's how mine works.
For some reason, they do both methods, @John Brunner . Mine used to come on that kind of schedule, and came during the middle of the month; but for whatever reason, they changed it over and now mine comes on the 3rd of each month, officially, unless there is a weekend or holiday involved. However, our bank usually posts it early; so we often get ours on the first, or even at the end of the preceding month if a weekend is involved.
YES ! That is exactly what happened. The bank FINALLY credited my account. Scared the hell out of me. Thanks Bobby
THAT'S interesting. Mine comes in the middle of the month. I've had folks working in retail talk about their busy day being when SS checks came out, but I assumed that to mean every Wednesday, not one day a month. From the SSA website: In general, here’s how we assign payment dates: If you were born on the 1st through the 10th of the month, you’ll be paid on the second Wednesday of the month. If you were born on the 11th through the 20th of the month, you’ll be paid on the third Wednesday of the month. If you were born after the 20th of the month, you’ll be paid on the fourth Wednesday of the month. There are exceptions. For example, children and spouses who receive benefits based on someone else’s work record will be paid on the same day as the primary beneficiary. For others, we may issue your payments on the 3rd of each month. Among other reasons, we do this if: You filed for benefits before May 1, 1997. You also receive a Supplemental Security Income (SSI) payment. Your Medicare premiums are paid for by the state where you live. You live in a foreign country. Individuals who receive SSI payments due to disability, age, or blindness receive those payments on the 1st of each month. I don't understand that last line. Most people receive benefits due to age.
SSI is different than regular SS payments, and people can receive SSI at just about any age if they are disabled, or qualify in some other way. SSI is not based on the person’s earnings like regular SS is.
