As we near another U.S. government "shutdown", here is the debt clock as it ticks away. It is interesting that our Federal income is decreasing as the debt rises. What will happen when our tax income arrives at $0? Does the whole country just go away? We will pass 34 trillion dollars in debt by the end of the year in any case. The 2008 collapse of the economy and even the Great Depression might be minor blips compared to what we may be facing in the near future. Buckle your seat belts!

As always, they are ramping up the tired old news reports about the doom and gloom that will result if the Republicans don't let the Democrats have their way. As always, I suppose the Republicans will do just that. Meanwhile, we'll be hearing from some (or at least one) member of the forum about how Social Security payments won't be made unless we go deeper in debt for no good reason.

Groan! I don’t see why we can’t ever get on the right side of this issue.

This is just more evidence, as if any more was needed, that running the country effectively is not on their to do list. Their concerns are their agendas, from NWO to pork for re-election. Politics and politicians, vile things indeed.

POLITICS, n. A strife of interests masquerading as a contest of principles. The conduct of public affairs for private advantage.”

POLITICIAN, n. An eel in the fundamental mud upon which the superstructure of organized society is reared. When he wriggles he mistakes the agitation of his tail for the trembling of the edifice. As compared with the statesman, he suffers the disadvantage of being alive.”

I say let it shut down until they have a balanced budget law. We are just kicking the can down the road.
They froze rental payments during covid hurting some people and paid some people for not working. The gov't picks and chooses who to hurt and who to help and it is not done for us. Let the cards fall where they may and then let them pick up the pieces.
    Sorry, feel like babbling.

The Freedom Caucus may change things this time, as they have been a thorn in McCarthy's side since the beginning of the year. They were the ones who forced him to begin an impeachment inquiry on Biden. He won't be removed from office i all likelihood, but we may find out enough to keep him from running again.

When the government shut down under Obama, he had a giant curtain and it's frame fabricated, delivered and installed.

Setting aside the small-minded arrogance of it all, if the government was shut down:
-Who wrote the specs and the requisition?
-Who in the chain approved the requisition?
    -Who managed the bidding process?
--And how were bidding regulations followed in such a short time?
-Who wrote and awarded the contract?
-Who inspected and approved the work?
    -Who paid the contractor?

    "Shutdown" is meaningless.

That was one of the most juvenile displays of mock urgency I have ever seen. Absurd.

Obama tried to make the "shutdown" worse than it needed to be, as he shut a number of things that weren't funded by the government in a childish, immature fit of pique.

Shut the government down unless we agree to send more money to Ukraine. That makes perfect sense.
